Well, it's been a while since I considered picking up one of these, the 2nd computer I ever owned, a rubbery Spectrum:

I may do a separate write up, depending on the need for repairs.

Also in the picture are an HDMI tester, needed for the PS4 diagnostics, and an HDMI breakout board to help me test connections at the port itself.

Just felt the need to share my *hilarious* breadboard.

The right side is just an AY chip/beeper through monitor
The left side is my lame attempt to interface the Spectrum with a CMOD-S7

I've never seen so many wires hanging off a Speccy :)

The biggest breadboard project I did was a latch card to sound chip on my ZX81. It was limited, but actually worked ok. All lost to the mists of time sadly...

I'd attached a raspi to the S7. Hand-coded a UART, circular FIFOs, CDC stuff etc in system verilog (because I didn't really understand AXI mainly). My first project was to allow various USB HIDs to be attached to the Spectrum via the PI but I couldn't figure out why I was getting two reads on my FIFO for every IORQ from the Spectrum.

I guess it was down to timing/constraints on the FPGA but that was way above my level of expertise and I never could find any info on it (beyond the 'hello world' type stuff). Shelved indefinitely but I can't bring myself to tear apart the breadboard - just in case I get the urge to do some Verilog ;)

It really attracts the dust :D
