Lumafix 128 is on order, but it'll be a while before it arrives, so today I'll reassemble the C128. Photos to follow.

And all back together :)


So next up will be the Lumafix when it arrives :)

It's interesting that the C64 image is so clear compared to the C128, but they have different video subsystems. I also found out that if you accidentally boot with the 40/80 column switch down, it looks like it's faulty when it isn't!

So I said that the C64 display was much clearer than the C128 side, and it is, but there can be a bit of variance, and compared to my bread bin C64 which has a fantastic picture, it's a bit poor and has some jailbars.

It also does vary from time to time.

So, C64 Lumafix is on the way now too.

I didn't find that the Lumafix helped with my C64, it actually made things worse. I think that it depends upon the machine, VIC-II version and what you determine as "better". The Lumafix merely adjusts the relative balance of the colours to get an acceptable compromise.

Understood. I will see how it goes and if it helps great, if not I'll have to live with it. Really hoping the C128 version helps because the image is terrible!

That looks perfectly normal for a C128 actually.

Remember that it would look a lot better on a CRT as the colours aren't discrete and there's more smearing.

Yeah, I know, I just don't have any CRTs, well other than the OPD display, so I know it's a bit of a stretch. I would try and find something like a 1084S, but prices are silly ATM, and I don't have a lot of space for one believe it or not.

And the Lumafix128 ahs arrived!!


Have to say I am impressed by the packaging and the whole overall kit. it's way more than I was expecting. It even came with a tiny screwdriver for the pots!

Hopefully I'll find some time over the next few days to get it installed and adjusted.

I think I made a booboo with the Lumafix64, the C128 uses a different VIC I think for the 64 side of things, but we'll see when I open it up.

If it won't fit in the 128 then I do have 2 other 64's I can use it in, so it's no loss.

I only own a C128D (that has not seen the light of day for a long time) but out of curiosity why did you choose "LumaFix128"?

I have been considering an luma pickup board VICdizer128 + RGBTOHDMI?

It's a tad expensive at $100 for the full kit but the RGB2HDMI box is reusable across multiple computers C64/128/Atari 800/Apple II/Ti99/MSX/CoCo etc. they just need individual pickup boards.
