Cool :mrgreen: If they now would integrate pick & place you would have a completely automated smt production on your desktop... very impressive.

With the help of 3d printed guide like posted some time ago, I can see that the manual pick and place ought to be be easier though.

I designed these adapter a while ago and
@PhilC Built a couple of for us to test out..
These seem to work well but definitely need a heatsink, I guess it is a little unfair as the ceramic package is technically a heatsink already... The plastic package I had up to 57c , with a heatsink it is around 44c, which is about what I was seeing on the ceramic package anyway.
There is more of a test to see what the service mount version of the CPU was capable of and also that the ceramic one seem to be very problematical for sourcing.. It isn't really ideal to have the adapter, but I guess it could be a option if the TF536 was redesigned at any point it could actually use the SMT version.

That's actually very interesting.
Would this board be able to be soldered directly onto the TF536 board? If so that would potentially reduce the height of the board by a few mm.
In my project to get a TF536 into an STFM and fit the keyboard and top case height is my enemy. From my current state the total stack is about 1cm too tall at the front. My redesigned relocator should be able to remove about 3mm, soldering the 68000 and TF to the relocator should save a similar amount, so being able to reduce the CPU on the TF by a similar amount would bring this down to around the right height.

Not really, as the 68000 is directly below on the new board and once the TF536 installed without a socket (soldered to the board, as it will be eventually) there will be no room underneath.

@stephen_usher why not just rotate the TF536 and have the CPU towards the PSU where there is more height ?

There's the IDE interface on that side. I did look at all possible locations and orientations, again and again.

I guess that these adapters aren't going to appear in the shop and they were only ever an experiment.

Wasn't planning on selling them no. Might still have a couple PCBs if you want some.
