The thing is, people
DO only act in self-interest. It's taken me this many years to work that out. Outside of kids, partner (most of the time), people are only thinking of themselves, whats best for them, what's in it for them, etc.

The thing is, people

A guy I used to work with used to say
look after number one because number one is the only one who will look after you
I can see where he he's coming from based on a lot of past experiences. So if that logic was true, we would not have this great community here.

OK, I've given it a thought while being bored at work. ;-)
Frankly, I think my younger myself would/should be quite happy to see how things turned out. I used to be very shy, introvert, didn't even believe I would find a GF (like ever, I had no idea how to approach this problem ;-)), had no clue about programming or electronics... Just playing games on my 800XE and being a total loser (well, maybe I didn't see myself as a loser but definitely as lacking basically every useful social/professional skill).
It took me a lot of practice, many super-awkward moments, bit of luck and mostly self-will to change that. These days people often consider me being an extrovert but ... introversion is for life, I'm just better at masking it. ;)
I'm pretty sure this now sounds like I'm living the best life ever but that is of course far from the truth, many things didn't work out, many things came way too late, many things are still pretty much fucked up... but yup, definitely, still better than everything than my younger me had to struggle with.
Oh and forgot to add: contrary to many other people's destiny, 20 years go or now, still have NOT GIVEN UP ON ATARI! :D No regrettable selling of any hardware, no "having a PC phase", no "my mum took it out of closet and put into trash", no turning into console gamer (but sure, I did play a few games, but mostly those with Linux ports - Serious Sam, Bioshock, Tomb Rider to name a few), constantly improving with software and hardware knowledge. So yeah, I'm freakin' proud Atarian, 25+ years and counting. ;-)
