Re: External Floppy Drive not working

I wonder if you need to change the select on the cable as well. As switch swapping AB you may need to swap the cable itself over to the next pin on the connector.

Yes I've got the drive swap mod done with a DPDT switch. This was fitted by @rubber_jonnie when he fixed my ST.exxos wrote: 20 Sep 2022 23:47But you are changing the drive ids when swapping the drives around ?BrettRogersUK wrote: 20 Sep 2022 23:45
it works as expected if the floppy drive is on the internal and the gotek on the external. just not the other way round unfortunately.
Ok, so not one of my Goteks require the MO jumper to be set. All have just S0 set and work fine and are interchangeable internal/external. If the Gotek works internally then that should rule out the drive itself. Also, don't expect to open drive A: and see all of your files like a normal USB stick. Drop your .ST disk images into the root of a fat32 formatted USB stick (Max 32GB IIRC) and either press a button or use the rotary selector if you have one to insert the image into the 'drive' and it then will appear as a floppy disk.BrettRogersUK wrote: 21 Sep 2022 00:05Yes I've got the drive swap mod done with a DPDT switch. The Gotek has it's jumpers set to S0 and I also have the MO jumper set (without it, the Gotek doesn't work) and the Jumper on the floppy drive (epson SMD-380) is set to drive 0. I've tried setting the jumper on floppy drive to 1, 2 and 3 but to no avail, I've tried setting the Gotek to S1 as well.
Before you drag it out, IT WORKS!rubber_jonnie wrote: 21 Sep 2022 16:12Ok, so not one of my Goteks require the MO jumper to be set. Since I know your drive select MOD works as I tested it after installing it with a Gotek externally and it worked just fine (A: & B: swapped successfully) then I can only suspect there is a problem with the cable and/or the Gotek. Let me drag out the cable I made which I know works and double check my wiring diagram.
If there is an error, then it needs to be corrected.
I would have replied sooner, but have been away and mostly inaccessible.
Splendid :)BrettRogersUK wrote: 21 Sep 2022 16:26

I don't know how many times I have tried it without the MO jumper set and nothing happened. I've done it again today just on the off chance and it works. I can read a disk in Drive B (external) and I can also boot from it when it the switch is in the B position.
So YES IT WORKS! No idea why it chose now to work! But it does. Just need an enclosure now to put the drive and wiring in and a little regulated 5v power supply. I could make one I suppose that uses a 12v adapter with 5v regulator. Or would running from USB like a 5v 1A phone charger work?
That will also work.BrettRogersUK wrote: 21 Sep 2022 16:26 ...
