Also note that year if manufacture of any monitor is a factor. Its been noticed that boards in monitors can change over batches and you could have 2 identical monitors side by side where one would work with the ST and the other won't

Yep. To confirm that too, I once counted 4 different screen manufacturers in one Dell laptop model type! ANY of those could have specifications beyond the one specified by Dell.
There were also 2 connector types for the same model panels, as well as different signal pinouts passing through the same connector form factor (the panel generally displays the image wrongly).
So really, it's getting more and more a bit of a lottery; the best we can do is take educated guesses, even for 'confirmed' models like Exxos explained.

Thanks for your feedback.
I could also tweak the settings on my previous NEC 1990FXp but MED RES was really ugly andunusable.
Are you talking about the hollow vertical lines on the screen, because no matter what my tweaks were, they always appeared on the screen.
The EA224WMi is nice, with its integrated speakers and numerous connectors, you have more options for you retro machines.
FYI here is my MSTE at med res on the 1970NX:

As you can see, it isn't perfect, there are some fuzzy edges on the left edge of letters Please try to look past the moire pattern!), but it is very usable.
It is though a different aspect ratio more akin to the displays of the time, which does help.

People over at Atari Age are raving about this 27" monitor, supporting all 3 resolutions:

HTH's.

Have they solved this brilliant picture quality of that particular LCD? (sorry didn't read the whole thread...) Otherwise I'll pass, thanks ;-)

It is a near perfect MED RES screen compared to the 1990FXp...

Yes, I have heard of such stories.
It can be a real lottery sometimes.

Seems nice, but I personally would prefer a white one just to have a better match with my ATARIs and AMIGAs.
No integrated speakers is also a minus for me.
(I know, I have great expectations...).
:D

Is your statement based on your own experience or just an assumption based on the NEC manual ?
From the stuff thats passed through my hands and tested at 15khz mainly for Amigas/STs. The manuals don't always give the full scanrates (I'm guessing they may play it safe in case they change screen/board details during the model lifespan) so that makes it hard to know.
My NEC Multisync 1250FE+ is just really a Mitsubishi Diamondtron screen with budget electronics. By this time though (mid 90s), scanrates below 31Khz were nonstandard, so generally not bothered with.
I also have 2 NEC 1990FXp TFTs which are 15khz compatible (like yours). My 'monster' Mitsu 37" Megaview CRT also scans down to 15Khz, but then, that's from 1987, when the standards were a bit more open, I guess (C=/Atari viable customer targets still?).
I also worked as a Dell reseller engineer before covid and managed to test a few of their monitors (only a few, as we mainly dealt with reconditioned laptops). Never had any that did 15khz there, but there are some that do it apparently.
(I still have two of the Dell 27" UW TFTs and they don't; well not through RGB anyway).
HTH.
Thanks for your feedback.
I do not feel like getting that CRT monitor now.
And I agree that manuals are often omitting the 15 Khz mode, even if it is fully supported.

It is for sure. On my FXp, I can't even get close this good.
