Okay, quick question.

It's easy according to the instructions to hook a +5v to red and ground to black on
the P/S. However, I can't seem to find any pictures or instructions on *where* to
hook that to the Lightning ST board itself?

Any help appreciated as always. Thanks.

Right there. You can either solder onto the +5V and GND vias or connect a floppy-style power connector to the four pins, making sure you get it the right direction. You don't want +12V going in there. :)

It looks like there's been a board revision/update:



The arrow points to where that +5v and gnd is on my board,
compared to yours. It's just slightly under the overhang of
the AdSpeed board, but still accessible. It's not empty holes
though, there is something in it, I'm assuming from the other
side. I can still solder it I think, but it's a bit of a challenge
for someone (multiple thumbs!) like me.

I think I'll re-assemble everything but the RF shielding and
the top case, then try it out before deciding whether or not
to attempt it.

Okay, I got the Lightning ST board installed and working.

I did not attempt adding the +5v and gnd to the board,
because it seems to be working fine and is (so far)
very stable.

I tried a few SanDisk SD cards, 2 and 4 gigs and they
were recognized and worked fine.

As mentioned previously, I did have to disable the IDE
component because I'm using an AdSpeed accelerator
and they conflict, but I'm okay with that.

With the Cloudy TOS board I've got TOS v2.06, which
I love.

I ran transfer-rate and am getting around 410 kb/s
which I think is normal for the Lightning ST board.

It's very convenient to be able to grab a properly
formatted SD card and just walk around my man-cave,
swapping it in and out of every computer in sight. :)

Maybe, there is a "FLOPPY_PWR", with only pin 1 and 2 with actual pins, and pin 3 and 4 unpopulated. It may be easier there. (and check those are effectively the alternative +5/GND, don't want to blow this up !)

Not sure, but thanks for the advice.

Everything seems to be working like it's supposed to so I'm tempted to
just leave it as is and close it up.... :)

Yup, looks like they dropped that connector from four pins to two and rotated it. @Darklord could verify with a multimeter that those are connected to VCC and GND, but it certainly appears to be the case.

Thanks much! I'm going to leave it open for about a week, running the BBS
and just keep an eye on it. I'll use the various SD cards I have here with it
and see how it goes.

If everything is "A-OK" at the end of the week, I'll re-assemble everything
and pronounce this project a success and done. :)

Posting this in case it might help anyone else installing the newer revision of the
Lightning ST board (Matthias was kind enough to send some pictures, detailing
the +5v and gnd connections):

I already have the wires with the connectors to fit these so that only leaves
connecting to the red and black wires on the P/S. I think even I can do this. :)


He also sent a picture of the motherboard and where to get +5v from it,
although Matthias and the instructions do point out that the best place
would be directly from the red (+5v) and black (gnd) wires on the P/S.
