This cpu is still around in a dip package Hitachi HD68HC000CP12 i dont know if it would help
A HC in a STFM is a bad idea :)

Why?
The Stacy uses a HC. Is the converse a problem (i.e. using a non-HC in a Stacy)?

A lot wont even boot with a HC in them. I wrote loads about this *somewhere* years ago. I think
@GadgetUK164 also found HC's dont work.
Same problem as always, the things are barely working in the first place, change the loading on the bus and your screwed. Then we back to DMA issues on the STE again.. its why I am abandoning original machines, as they just not worth the trouble anymore.

@exxos Seems that we either need a few more H4 boards or the H5 to appear & then get @Cosmic Puppet and all the other serious users to move to the newer design for their own sanity!

And my sanity ;) drifting off topic somewhat again :roll: But this is the problem with original machines, by the time you have done all the fixes and servicing ( and indeed paid someone to do all the work plus the shipping etc) , you might as well just build a H4.

That's correct! The HC version of the 68K crashed on boot of my STFM. PSU had been recapped already.

I've never been sane
@JezC 'Tis why I've decided to focus on music again rather than being a person :lol:
The last 10 years worth of compositions and ideas is nearly off the PC and playing on the Atari. Been painstaking as I've had to decide on how to set everything up. Backing up sounds etc. I actually have all the exact sound patches running on the new keyboard. I have gotta give it to Roland. Their JUNO DS is a dream. Has all the sounds of the JUNO Di and more. The whole system can be backed up on USB and I can edit everything onboard which means I can go 100% Atari (No PC) Except for recording finished parts directly into the soundcard.
All parts have had to be exported as MIDI files, so if you Imagine at least a thousand bars of music...
Is it bad practice to leave the SD card in the Ultrasatan slot? Can this adversely affect the data?
@exxos ' boards will future proof the system for which I am really thankful for.
Thanks
@Steve
Thanks everyone for the input.
I've already achieved far more than I thought possible. Some might think a 30 year old museum piece would slow things down. It's actually making things easier! My system loads faster than my last keyboards' editor sends the sounds to the keyboard. Which after this week will be scrapped along with the logic 5 I have running in Virtual Box. Sound can now be instant and selected before each song. I'll upload some vids of it working soon.
I know it's probably bad, but I love the heat and smell of the Atari PSU. Proper nostalgic! My last machine was on all day for 10 years before it went iffy.
p.s. I've definitely got the video shifter problem. Thankfully a 4 second hold of a front button on the NEC puts it back, and without knocking the image off the screen like the LG did.
All this has worked well enough for me to set up but if I can get things from 98% good to 100% I will because I can. :lol:
I love this machine!

@exxos
Have you tried the Hitachi 68k cpu. They all appear to be cmos architecture even the hc sieres. While the Motorola CPU is cmos on the non Hc and hcmos on there hc parts

This was work done years ago, its mostly down to bus loading & noise issues which is similar to why HC types work better in STEs. Its all a very complicated set of issues.

Just for the record: For 68000 (non-HC) Motorola did
not use a CMOS process, but NMOS. Same goes for Hitachi's 68000: NMOS, not CMOS.
