First off, a massive thank you to @Steve for repairing my STE :D I would just be staring at an attractive grey box if he had not come to the rescue lol

And then to @exxos for producing such great products. Thanks to him I now have a 4meg, dual tos, 32Mhz STE with a cool Pacman blitter chip too :D

Thank you again

Dan

:D

Just a quick question. Where will I see the most benefits from the extra speed?
I know where the improvements are from the Gembench results but what actual applications will be the most noticeable?

Will POV Raytrace be quicker for example? And what about games?

Nobody has ever compiled such a list. All GEM / Desktop apps will see a speed boost.

I did some testing when I originally upgraded mine, and uploaded the videos to YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUhBbO ... subscriber

For 3d and I suppose calculation heavy software like POV, there was a definite performance boost because the CPU was able to perform those calculations faster.

However if you look at the SF2 comparison, you can see there is not much to be gained if you're running a 2d beat 'em up.

Gembench took about half the time to run and the stats at the end are pretty clear. Everything is going faster apart from RAM access, which remains firmly set at 100%.

There are gains to be had, but don't expect RAM to work any faster.

Thanks @rubber_jonnie :D

Definitely noticed the 3D games running smoother.

Will try some more later and over the weekend

Have just done a quick test with POV Raytracer. Did the pacman file as a tga image but only at 80x50 resolution as didn't want to wait for ages lol.

At 8mhz it took 10 minutes 12 seconds and at 32mhz only 7 minutes 40 seconds so a definite improvement.

Also noticed improvement in Damocles, Epic, No Second Prize, Archer MacLean's Pool and Midwinter 2 on the gaming front
