Never had that issue in the 30 odd years I been using floppies. Maybe your drive is a bit iffy, or the floppies, or your machine needs some mods.. but there really shouldn't be any reason why either format should fail.

I have had problems with it from the get go. It operated appallingly in TOS 1.00 Then I discovered the cable end was faulty and I had to crimp a new end on it (the tool cost me £20!) Then the psu recap seems to have gotten rid of the occasional TOS Error #35.
Do you think I could have damaged it last night when I accidentally tried to format HD? The head made a horrid sound.
