ExtenDOS Gold is now at v3.4B, mainly an important fix for a bug introduced in 3.4A. It is recommended to upgrade to the latest version and as before, a free updater for 3.x users is available for download.

The popular CD Writer Suite is up to v3.3. The CDwriter program now features LFN support under MagiC, and CD InScriptOr and CDbackup have received minor bug fixes, while the distribution CD now comes with the entire up-to-date archive of MyAtari back issues as of the date of ordering!

by Dean Garraghty

A new PC CD-ROM containing all Power Per Post products, along with some of my own is now available. The CD contains both DCM (Disk Communicator) and ATR (for 8-bit emulators) versions of the following products:

  • Quick Programming language V2.2 (latest version) and V2.1 (for
    compatibility with older Quick sources).
  • Quick Support disks 1 and 2 (example code and tutorials).
  • SAM (Screen Aided Management) 80-column desktop system (a bit like GEM), latest version.
  • SAM Budget (spreadsheet).
  • SAM Designer (DTP/design package).
  • SAM Utility Extensions.
  • Four Power Per Post games: Rubber Ball, Glaggs It!, Bombi and Mine Sweeper.
  • QuickEd (character set editor for mouse, joystick and Touch Tablet)
  • Digi-Studio.
  • Issues 1-14 of our News-Disk disk magazine.
  • Issues 15-19 of the printed magazine carrying on from the disk mag (scans of the original mags).
  • Issues 20-26 of the disk magazine carrying on from the printed mags
  • News-Disk yearly disk 1 (disk to go with the printed mags, includes lots of Quick source code).

[Image: DGS logo]All products are supplied with PDF versions of the manuals on the CD. A suitable PC 8-bit emulator is required to run the ATR versions. A way of transferring the DCM files over to the Atari is required to use these disks on an Atari 8-bit. Disk Communictor 3 or later is required to turn the DCM files back into Atari disks. Disk Communictor is a PD product. Abobe Acrobat Reader (a free product) is required to read/print the PDF manuals.

The cost of this CD is just US$15 including shipping. It can be ordered using a credit/debit/charge card by going to the DGS web site at http://www.dgs.clara.net and then clicking the link to the CD-ROM info/order page. PayPal is used to process the order, which is safe and secure. Your order will be dispatched within 24 hours of you ordering the product on-line. UK users may buy the CD by mail by sending a cheque for £10 (including P&P) to the address shown on the web site.

M and RealTime now work on Steem
by Tim Conrardy

I am happy to announce there are now PC versions of M and RealTime. Thanks are due to the authors of Steem, the Atari emulator for PC. Basically you run the emulator on your PC and then you can run M and RealTime with all MIDI functions working perfectly through your sound card or MIDI modules.

As of 28 July 2002 previous versions of Steem could not run M or RealTime in which the MIDI portions did not work or respond. With the new version just released, the Steem authors looked at M and RealTime specifically (this is due to threads on the Steem list about M and RealTime not working). The new version now works with these programs.

For information on Steem, and how to install it on your PC, as well as links to download the newest version, go here:
http://tamw.atari-users.net/steem.htm

Please disregard my comments about M and RealTime as now I need to (happily) change this.

For information as well as the downloads for Atari M and RealTime, go here:

Many composers/programmers previously done on the Atari platform are now repackaging thier programs which includes Steem. Examples include Clarence Barlow's Autobusk, Gareth Jones' Schoenberg Composer, Marc Marc's Brain-Wave Lab and more.

It is wonderful that these unique and historical programs now work on PC, thus enabling many more users to enjoy and still be creative in exploring music which can only be accomplished by the use of these applications.

For more unique programs that can be run on Steem, please visit my site, with over 100 downloads available as well as many composers projects and algorithmic applications.
