I have to say that it is very neat, and it comes with a plastic plug to fill the space where the original connector was. The main difficulty was just the hot air install part which requires a lot of care as there are 4 connections that need to go through from USB C to the original USB and power connections, and on the mod they are pre-tinned, but there was too much solder as the pads are very dense, so I cleaned up and re tinned, but that clearly did the trick as all the connections have been made perfectly.
The pads my be on the top of the Vita mainboard, but they are on the bottom of the mod, so you can't see at all if they solder properly, it's a bit of a guess, though it does sit flat when it's done. Then it's just a case of soldering on the anchor points to the ground plane. It only fits one way so difficult to fit the wrong way around.
Luckily the short was just in the original plug/cable so there was no damage internally. I think I got lucky, but definitely a good mod to do.
Very happy that it was an easy fix.
