You talked me into it - PiStorm32 Lite in A1200

So I did a bit of testing with both the Pi 3 and Pi 4 and the thermals are quite a bit different.

After a run through of the first level of Zeewolf I checked the Pi 4 and it was at around 70C.

In contrast the same test with the Pi 3 gave a post test temp of about 50C.

The difference visually game wise was imperceptible so I'm going to stick with the Pi 3 for now, and need to hook up the 2nd display and see what's what.

My PiStorm A1200 rig has a 3A+ I think that is what it is called, the square one. Seems snappy enough.

You want the pre built 'CaffineOS' (sorry spelt wrong I think) SD card image.
Everything all sorted and get all the updates via RPi WiFi. There are also WHDload scripts that people have added which also tweeks the PiStorm settings to ensure max compatibility.

I have a real fudge at the moment for RTG/Amiga 15khz.
Amiga RGB goes into a GBS8200(running GBS Control), then into a VGA-HDMI converter. This then goes into a HDMI switch with the PiStorm HDMI output. Then there is a wire from the Parallel port to the HDMI switch which does auto switching.

Can't wait for A1200 Framethrower to ditch all these extra boxes and wires!!

Some games I've tried just don't run properly.

Make sure you have your WHDLoad up to date and set up correctly, and maybe search for games that need a tweak like turning off caches in the tooltypes.

Interesting, I haven't come across Caffeine OS so I will have a look at that, thanks. Oddly the Emu68 is supposed to work with WiFi but I'm having issues. It just doesn't work.

I'm willing to try as many options as possible to get this running nicely.

I personally think CaffineOS is good for an Amiga newbie who just wants it all done perfectly without any hassle. I personally didn't want to loose my AmigaOS config that I'd painstakingly learned about and configured over the last few years (I upgraded from an 030 booster) for me, half the fun of vintage is learning it all myself, the ins and outs. Not knocking it, in hindsight if I jumped into Amiga with a PiStorm to begin with, I'd probably have gone for it.

That explains a lot, WHDLoad is the way to go.

You could try to hold down both mouse buttons during boot, which brings up the Early Startup Control Screen. From there, select "Boot Options" to access the "Disable CPU Caches" checkbox.
But that will only help with a few games..

Thanks, looks like I need to read up more on WHDLoad then. It'll help for my A500 too as I installed it there too but haven't yet really done very much with it.

I really am a noob when it comes to the Amiga, so need to figure out the fun stuff a bit better

You can get a cheap HDMI -> CSI2 adapter which feeds the Indivision into the Pi Camera port and EMU68 can with the right driver switch between native and RTG.

The CSI2 adapters are really cheap on AliExpress

Or you can fit a HDMI switch and wire it to the Parallel port to make an auto switcher. This is cheaper but only supports full screen.

Make sure you install the PiStorm WHDload Wrapper
