Yes - the overlays make a big difference for some games. Also built-in intellivoice, I can't really play B17 bomber effectively without both. :(
IMHO they did a great job of it, though annoyingly they didn't include AD&D in the built in games and the overlay for that would be super helpful.

Other than that it's good.

Leaving out one of the most iconic games is a bit of a miss. It's playable without the overlays ofc. I see that someone is rewriting it with a plan to add new features. It's progressed really far now and I'm keeping an eye on it. https://forums.atariage.com/topic/38640 ... tain-2-wip

Hmm interesting.

I do have an image of the overlay which is used for the USB stick so I could potentially make my own overlay.

Will be very interested to know how to create them, they're really needed for some of the games.

Just an image, I downloaded a truckload ready made, but you can make them yourself, it's just a JPG of a certain size I think.
As did I but I think they are on my other laptop (Windows not my main Mac)

I need to go have a look. There are tutorials I think.

I looked online - doable but I don't have all the equipment at home, so might be better to buy instead. If Atari released the overlay pack for the Sprint for general purchase, I could potentially pickup the others I'd like from eBay.

You might want to check out the Minty firmware for the Pirto 2 available from https://github.com/gtortone/Minty - it's a big step up from the original versions. Apart from the better UI and support for longer file names, it pretty much removes the need for the 'cfg' files. It detects the main games ('bin' files) from a 'fingerprint' and the rest can either remain with their accompanying 'cfg' file, or a 'rom' file can be used instead (it includes the config details). Programs can be converted to 'rom' files using the 'bin' and 'cfg' using the jzintv emulator tool called 'bin2rom.exe'. It's a much cleaner setup. :)

It would make a lot of sense for them to release more overlays given the Intellivision library.

Thanks I'll take a peek later

the rgb pcbs arrived;
rgb pcb.jpg
they work fine with the substitute RGB amp, which is a relief. picture quality is as you'd expect from rgb... almost too clean

I realized I made an error in fabrication, I made up the boards according to the project page on OSH labs website; https://oshwlab.com/yannick.erb/Intelli ... _copy_copy
I missed the caveat on the schematic that the 10 meg resistors were placeholders and not to be mounted. Given that 10 meg is likely functionally indistinguishable to open circuit in this case I'll probably leave them on. Red and Blue both use 2 of these 10 meg resistors and the colours look good.

I had some shearing at the top so I modded the board as detailed here; https://consolemods.org/wiki/Intellivis ... ck_RGB_Mod

The RGB mod removes the need for the composite generating daughter card. I've thought of mounting the RGB PCB in its place, possibly reusing the connector, but I prefer to modify the internals as little as possible and make stuff reversible. Finessing the install is the next step now I know it works.
I'll probably go with a similar solution to the master system 2 RGB mod, removing the modulator and fitting a 8-pin mini din in place of the RCA, something like this; https://www.consolesunleashed.com/guide ... all-guide/

Also got the PiRTOII PCBs and mode one up with the Minty firmware, Impressive stuff.

Great to hear about the progress you've made and they work very well. I think most of us know about that hopeful anticipation when turning it on after a mod!

Good to know - I'm still keen to follow what you've done here and hopefully emulate it. I'd move to RGB despite having good composite video - mainly because of the shearing I also get at the top of the particular TV I'd ideally use. This might be the answer to that.

The daughter board in mine has a slight homemade feel to it. Bit fiddly to deal with it when opening the unit up but keeping it reversable is best I think, perhaps with one exception regards reverting to RF video. Will be interesting to see the results of the next steps. Please keep me in mind if you decide to sell any RGB boards. :)

They're great - no config files with Minty now too. This works will nearly all games I've tested. I think the few that don't use JLP functions / memory.

I need to try Minty myself, I must try and find the time amongst my other projects to do that.
