WANTED: TOS 1.04 rom, 2 chip version, US English

That makes more sense yes in terms of numbers of chips. But 206 2 chip is for STE, so it could be confusing for people if they are looking for 2 chip 104 and only see I sell 2 chip 206. . 2 chip 206 isn't simple on a ST as well all know. So I don't think we should involve 2 chip 206 as it's for different computer.

DUTALTOS 1.62 / 206 - STE

TOS104 (ORIGINAL) UK ONLY STF/M (NOT POSSIBLE CREATE , ONLY RECYCLE FROM BROKEN MACHINES)

6 chip TOS any ST/FM but requires sockets fitting generally for boards which have 2 chip.

In general most people go with 6 chip. Because they don't care about 206 or fitting a decoder.

im not seeing the problems people are talking about , i have a two chip uk ste and from some looking it just requires the usual mod of resistors to change to eeproms im sure the German made version is the same PCB layout
i would burn you a pair for free if you pay the shipping to the UK ?
if your still in need let me know and maybe send a photo of your board so i can make sure ?

The OP is not talking about the STE, which do have a 2 chip ROM set, they are talking about an ST which has either 2 or 6 chip ROM sets. They specifically ask for TOS 1.04 which was not released in the STE.

2 chip ST's require original recovered mask ROMs to replace the originals with a new language, there are no suitable ROM ICs available to burn a 2 chip set for an ST, you have to adapt 32 pin ROMs as per this thread: 32 to 28 pin adaptation which was mentioned earlier in the post.

An STE 2 chip ROM set will not drop straight into an ST/F/M, neither does it have the jumpers for ROM configuration found in an STE, it can be either 1MBit or 256Mbit ROMs.

STE's will have either TOS 1.62 or TOS 2.05/2.06, neither of which was ever released for the ST/F/M, and version 2.0X won't work in an ST/F/M without an additional decoder board.

The simplest solution if you don't want to kludge in 32 pin ROMs is to add 4 sockets and 4 decoupling capacitors and burn the 6 ROM set to 27C256 ROMs. There are then 3 1MB/256K jumpers that need cleaning and soldering to tell the system 27C256 ROMs are in play.

i have done the same on three 520stfm in the uk
so it kind of means the same thing
