@LarryL yes with Tos 2.06 it would boot up, not with 1.04 though. It won't indicate any TT ram as standard though.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Cool, thanks!
So, at least some basic testing is possible
… let’s see - keep fingers crossed

Hi,

Another TF536 came to life :D

Booting fine to the desktop
Floppy working, loaded some programs - fine so far
Sysinfo shows 68030
Gembench running fine
IDE also working with loading HDDriver from floppy
No auto-boot yet - I suspect, that this is because I am still using standard plain TOS 2.06 for testing

UltraSatan attached to external ACSI Port seems not to work - system freezes before desktop appears
Either due to the plain TOS or it is because of the usual DMA problems
Using a Mega ST as a „host“ - not the best, I know… already changed the 68k pull-ups to 2k2 and added the 10k pull-ups to the DMA-Databus
No Blitter in the system

Now waiting for the 27C4096 to arrive and then I will flash the patched TOS version and continue testing

…pleased so far :-)

BTW: took me nearly one hour to fit the 68030 into the socket. Pins were not 100% aligned…

Hi,

Me again :-)

I have my ST536 Rev5 up and running.
But I am a bit confused about what is the right combination of Firmware, TOS-Image and Maprom, so I am seeking some advice, please

I am looking into the „Firmware&Tools“ section here https://exxosforum.co.uk/atari/last/TF536/index.htm
Under „Latest Firmware“ there are three links - am I right with the following
* Use the FW from REV5 ST536 and burn the main_top_C_OFF.jed into the FPGA
* Use the DUALTOS ROM at the end of the „Firmware&Tools“ section, but replace the TOS2.06 part with the Image from ST536 TOS206 (Exxos patched )
I am also unsure, which Maprom.PRG to use…
- The one from the maprom4k folder in REV5 ST536
- Or the one in REV5_ST526_SLOW_ROM V2

In the forum Threads I have also read about IDE autoboot - but I am not sure about the results.
Am I right, that I finally need the ACSI10 patch wire, to get TOS2.06 and EmuTOS booting from IDE?
Actually, without the wire, neither TOS2.06 not EmuTOS (from the dualTOS image) are booting from IDE. Starting with HDDriver on floppy works and gives access to the CF

Sorry if these might be noob questions ;-)
Went through the long thread „REV 3 - REV 5 - The beginning (ST536)“ but at the end got more confused ;-)

Cheers

Hi,

Got the autoboot issue sorted (with the help of a German colleague):
Problem was that the CF was initialized before at a Lightning ST using smartswap feature
Using a different CF (with ppera driver) immediately got it booting - either under EmuTOS and TOS2.06 - without having the ACSI10 connected

So, only the questions re the right combination of FW, TOS and Maprom remains :-)

Cheers

Hi,

seems I have found a quite stable set-up for my ST536 in my Mega1

found a German TOS2.06 for the ST536 in another thread here
viewtopic.php?p=95098#p95098
and managed to replace the UK TOS2.06 inside the Dual-TOS Image from here with this one

Seems to work, but I am not sure, if this is the latest (and good) version

@exxos you made this german TOS 2.06 for lukas.frank in december last year - is this a recent/final one?

regards
Michael

Just a quick post,

https://exxosforum.co.uk/atari/last/TF536/index.htm has been updated recently,

You don't need the ASCI 10 HDD wire fitted any more and there also looks to be a slower rom firmware for people using roms slower than the 55ns ones.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

I'm interested getting a ST536 rev 5 too. As I understand, it doesn't exactly fit in a ST right? At least, not with the keyboard installed.
Feeling old yet?
Atari 1040STf, 1040STe, Mega ST4 (ST536), Mega STe, TT030, Falcon (DFB1x)...
...and a whole bunch of other retro computers
