Yes, I'm just not quite ready to risk damaging the motherboard trying to get the old chip out...I've read too many horror stories about the power & Gnd pins!

I thought I had (some time ago) but that was before I had the CF cards working with TRUDIE in my H4 so I may dig out the small (32Meg) CF card & try with that again just to be sure. If I run HD Driver from floppy it does see the partitions on the card & let e open them from the desktop (might repeat the process & prove that sysinfo/Gembench can be run OK just to be 100% sure)...

Thanks for the suggestion!
You're welcome :)

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Do you have a desoldering gun? If so I didn't find it too much of a struggle, just lingering on the ground pin (and wiggling) for about 5 seconds before pulling the trigger. (Gun set for 320C.)
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Ok, just put a blank 1G SD card in the adapter & tried it...runs OK with HD Driver running form the floppy auto folder but no dice with it on the SD card (split into two 500Meg partitions).
The C drive has the HDDriver.sys file on it (plus newdesk.inf) but it won't boot off it.

Guess the next job for tonight (probably tomorrow as I have a parents evening to go to soon...) is to try and create that NV reset floppy as per the post linked to by stephen_usher...

:sigh:

Yes but I'm not sufficiently confident with it yet to risk using it for that on my Falcon...

Having just found that the reset button isn't doing anything (while checking with a blank SD card) I guess I need to check/change the caps/values on the reset circuit...

I presume you ran the installer inside the HDDRIVER package to install it on the CF card?

Do you mean HDDRUtil.app?
I used that to partition the SD card into two partitions (so it's TOS 1.04+ compatible) & then installed HDDriver onto the C partition from there.

When it boots HDDriver from floppy (in the auto folder) it recognises the SD to IDE card & report both C & D partitions on that SD card & I can open the C & D driver from the desktop OK.
It's just the booting from the SD card that isn't working, hence my suspicion that the NV needs resetting.

I think I posted previously that a working CF card on TRUDIE (in my H4) didn't work on the Falcon but still worked on the H4 (and I'm pretty sure I've copied files onto that CF card in Windows & accessed them on the H4 after it didn't' work in the Falcon).

I'll happily try some other steps before resetting the NV if that is worthwhile!

I was just checking as your other post sounded like you'd just copied the driver to the drive.

Always best to rule out the simple 'liveware' errors where possible

So I'm guessing that I did follow the correct basic sequence? It's what I remember doing to install it on the smaller CF card that I'm using on my H4...but I've slept (albeit briefly) since then! ;)

Bear in mind you can’t autoboot from byteswapped or joint TOS/Windows partitions — HDDriver gives you the option to make these, but they break the boot sector.
