DO NOT USE MOBILE / CGNAT DEVICES WHERE THE IP CHANGES CONSTANTLY!
At this time, it is unfortunately not possible to whitelist users when your IP changes constantly.
You may inadvertently get banned because a previous attack may have used the IP you are now on.
So I suggest people only use fixed IP address devices until I can think of a solution for this problem!

Is that the early version with four USBs and the memory card slot or the later one with just two USB ports?
Its the 2 USB port model.
TBH I wasn't overly worried, as I was more interested in a faulty one to try and fix. I did look at the 'fat' ones that are supposed to be backwards compatible, but even dead ones are expensive.

Whilst waiting for the PS3 to arrive, I decided to pull out my old Belinea 101715 and see if there was any obvious reason that none of the buttons worked any more, and that includes the power button.
The button board seems to be just a simple switch board with nothing on it but switches, and removing it confirmed that other than the power LED, it is just a series of switches. I'll test it regardless, but I can't imagine it being faulty.
The display still sort of works, in that any VGA signal applied to it does get displayed if it's powered on after the signal is connected, but because the menu isn't available, there are no options for auto adjust, so you get what you get.
This is the board:

Not sure if anybody recognises it, it's a DALM/SMB4D6 Rev 2. I have looked online but so far coming up with blanks.
It does have a Winbond W39F010P-70B chip, which is a 128Kx8 CMOS flash memory, and I'm wondering if that is dead, or had a configuration that is now lost. It's in a PLCC socket, so I've pulled it and cleaned it, but no change.
My worry is that the Winbond IC stored all the config for the menus etc, and without that, even with a new IC it wouldn't work. I may order one anyway, I can't imagine they are too expensive, so it'd be worth a punt.
It's been a very handy display over the years, be a shame if it couldn't be resurrected.

Will you have time to complete all of your projects ?
We only live once (and not twice despite what James Bond may say...).
:D
I did well this weekend. I managed to slip in a small side project that wasn't on the list and repaired a DVD drive that wouldn't eject. New belt and some lubrication and all back normal again :) My Amiga 1200 PSU got done and I also finished work on the Apple ][e so when I get going I can get stuff done quite quickly. I even mowed the lawn and strimmed this weekend!!
I do need to stop adding projects for sure, but right now I need to work through the easier ones and get them done. I am lucky to be able to find time to do these though.
I should really get my H4 & H5 done and in cases, but I think the Epson HX 20 really does need some love, I don't like it being dead.
I usually go to karate twice a week, but for various reasons I couldn't go last week, which bought me some more project time :)

PS3 overheating tends to be dust on the fan and the thermal paste degenerating. I used to buy PS3 fat's with YLOD very very cheap. And you could sometimes fix them with kapton tape and a heat gun... warm the BGA and the solder balls re-melt. But 8/10 were unrepairable even with the BGA rework station at work.
The 1st PS3 fat consoles which had the PS2 chipset inside for compatibility and a HARDWARE MPEG2 decoder for DVD are sought after today. But they are notoriously unreliable.
Me I have a PS3 slim, soft-modded, big SSD with "backups" of my discs on. PS3 discs are very cheap these days but I don't like to have to swap discs :)
I bought a few PS3 discs from CEX this weekend, nothing there was over £3, I always look for big titles never re-released on PS4.
Resistance Fall of Man 1-3
MotorStorm Apocalypse, Pacific Rift
Gran Tourismo 5 & 6
Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection
Killzone 2 & 3
Ratchet & Clank Trilogy HD, A Crack in Time, Tools of Destruction
inFamous 1 & 2

Still have one week off and I really don't feel like doing something...
Only spent one day on the STE TwiSTEr and will maybe spend another one if in the mood.
My last week was total leisure and sunbathing in Okinawa.

Ahhh, lovely. Okinawa is a place I'd like to visit from a Karate perspective, maybe one day :)

As it goes, the one I've bought, providing it survives being transported by Yodel, does actually power on albeit briefly, and for £16.99 I thought it'd be an ideal candidate for cleaning out an re-doing the thermal paste on.
Of course that's no guarantee, but I'll give it a shot.

Yeah, I did try to find a fixer upper early one but they were getting a bit expensive, hence why I settled on the phat PS3 despite the lack of PS2 compatibility. It's more at this point about 'can I repair it' than anything else as I love the fun of the repair.
