@rubber_jonnie Congrats on your 1st Dan! 12 years, now that's dedication!

As for mouser, I emailed them and asked about the UK site and USA shipping in 2013..
Hi Chris,

Thank you for your email. All goods are shipped from Texas, USA, so all the prices are excluding VAT. VAT is added at customs. If you choose UPS VAT will be paid by UPS and they will bill you together with an administration charge for doing so. If you ship with our FedEx International Priority service, goods destined for Europe are brought in through a clearing house in France - we then pay the VAT to French customs. If we have your VAT number, we claim the VAT back and your invoice is effectively zero rated for VAT. If we do not have your VAT number, then VAT is added to your Mouser Invoice.

I hope that this clarifies the situation, but if you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.

Kind Regards,

Leanne Coulson
Customer Service Representative
Mouser Electronics

IMO the UK site is pretty pointless, pretty much just lists prices in GBP I guess.

Thats pretty revolting RJ, why does Mouser have a store there and not carry anything? The Mouser here carries everything with quick delivery. Matter of fact I rarely go else where.. only when mouser doesn't carry it.

Yeah, it's pretty terrible, I used Mouser because the parts were in the BoM and I was a bit short of time so could do a one stop shop, but to be frank, given that my parts travelled so far, I think I will go back to RS as they at least have UK stock, even if there is a bit of searching involved.

It just doesn't need to be that way

@rubber_jonnie I did start adding in a lot of stuff from rapid electronics in the later BOM as well.

I am tending to use mouser a lot more these days.. Farnell used to be quite good at having those "new" or a bit hard to find items.. They are pretty terrible at that now. Even the items they do normally have in stock, they can be out of stock for three or more months at a time. Even half the stuff which they do actually state as in stock, magically goes out of stock and onto backorder for months. So I am getting pretty sick of Farnell overall these days.

RS I do use sometimes, but as you are probably aware, their packaging is a nightmare. Their prices don't tend to be so great any more either.

I tried to use rapid as much as possible as they offer the best prices normally.. But they don't really stock a huge range of items or anything slightly specialised.

Going back to Farnell, they sell the PLD's I use, but only in the 3V variety. So I am forced to buy this from Mouser, but rather than ordering from two different places, I just end up ordering all items from Mouser and not bothering with Farnell, then it is only one day I have to make sure I am at home for the delivery instead of two. Farnell have lost quite a lot of my business over the past couple of years because of that "one item" they do not stock any more.

I think even if I listed a lot of the parts from Farnell in the BOM, chances are they would be out of stock anyway.. That is already happened multiple times while I have been doing the BOM

But in any case, if you or anyone you have more options to add into the BOM, then I can put them in the list.

You must have forked out some coin for that many packages. :dizzy:

Ok, so for all the naysayers out there (You know who you are ;)) Here's a build progress picture.

IMG_20200105_173819.jpg

I have run into a problem though, in that some of my parts seem to be missing. There's some DIP sockets, some resistors and a few other bits and bobs that I can't find, and I'm pretty confident they were ordered and did arrive.

Luckily the tiny weeny SMT parts weren't missing, so they are safely attached to the mainboard now.

I'll have to go through my parts drawers before my next build session because it's a bit weird since I put all my parts in a build box as they arrive.

This however doesn't account for Cat activity, and he does like to knock stuff on the floor (B*stard). I'll hopefully either find what's missing, or order it. Then more building.

Also, no scorched fingers or other appendages to report.

@rubber_jonnie I told @PhilC you were primed to kick butt the H4. He's stuck in a rut on his second H4 so you may end up beating him to the finish line on his second. :goodpost: :bravo: :coolpics:

Phil RJ's coming up fast in the rear-view.. :poke:

I don't think I'm much of a threat, but I'm primed to try to not come last!!
