Which a500 card

The 534 runs great on the A500, just cap it at 40 MHz. The problem of course is the people that want to run it on the A2000 with millions of different expansion cards.

Are you overclocking a 40MHz and having issues at 50MHz, as I dont have any issues at 50Mhz?

If you read through the other threads in the 534 section, you'll notice that most people have had issues at 50 mhz with the 534. I was never able to get mine stable at 50 mhz either, but it works like a charm at 40. The most likely culprit is the RAM chips, since they are rated at 55ns but we access them at something like 25ns. You may get lucky and find chips that work, but most won't.

Yes I understand that people have had problems with 50MHz, but like I said, I dont have any problems and I use 55ns Alliance chips that others do, which is why I asked if you are using 40MHz cpus.

This is regardless of CPU. I have genuine gold Rev C 50 Mhz cpus for testing.

I dont think it is the ram though as I was having issues with WHDLoad with an over clocked 40MHz cpu that went away with the 50Mhz exchange.
I did also change the firmware and I'm not even sure what version I have running now, but it is rock solid stable at 50Mhz.

I bet that’s the problem I had with my glitchy 534 as well. Destroyed it later while trying to desolder the CPU socket. I should have started by swapping the oscillator :(

Edit: I suspect the RAM, that is. The same CPU worked fine in my other card.

Basically to fix this issue in a definitive way, more RAM wait states should be added, but that defeats the purpose. Better to have 40 Mhz with less wait states than 50 with more.

If you lucked out with RAM chips that work way beyond their specs, good for you but it's not a certainty.

Add me to the list of people who are happy with the TF534. It is very stable for me. I run it at 40 mhz, and I don't have any other expansions attached to the A500.

I know I had a rocky start with my 534 but once the firmware was update to the final version it's rock solid! Yes I have a problem with the ZRAM 8MB ZII card - but I've fast come to the conclussion that the ZRAM card is not as compatible as it makes out. I noticed that after doing the recommended mods by commodore to a rev 6 board that it doesn't even work with the standard 68000 CPU either now! It does however work on my rev 4.x board, but not with the 534. From the tinkering I've done over the weekend, I think the issue is more likely to be the ZRAM board.

Regards the whole 50Mhz reliability thing - this 534 that came from 8 bit dreams is rock solid! Not a glitch or crash, can play anything on it for hours on end (using gold top 50). Maybe its all about the RAM on those that dont run at 50! I also tested with 3 other CPUs (cheap modern 40Mhz ones) and they are just as stable too.

Agreed, The Amiga 2000 is not actively supported and is not the target for the card. Precisely because I cannot test every option that a user can plug in. If you get it to work then thats fantastic. It is what it is.

Well.. have assembled about 30x TF534's and never had any issue running them @50Mhz - all cards are working fine, however, need to admit im using different RAM type, not 55ns Alliance..
All issues i had was bad/fake CPU related.
Even RTG Card ive built is working nice with it.
(Issue i had was my A2000 related)
As about SCSI cards and related problems - as was said in Manual - caches should be turned off ot be able to use them.
Im still 100% sure TF534 needed to be released to stop people building TF530...

The only sad part about this card is slow ide interface, hence ive asked Stephen to release firmware without INT2 solution to achieve TF530 IDE speed at least..but that's the different story...
