Yeah but @PhilC was on about the dangers of pistons exploding or something. So will have to find something less dangerous i guess. I think there is a old li-on battery under a brick in the garden. Maybe I should set fire to that and see what happens. Though it doesn't belong to the chair .. but I guess fire is a relation of both...

@exxos i think I’d set fire to the battery and then throw that chair onto the fire with it, careful to point the piston at whichever neighbours house you like least.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Right then  so I could not get the cutting disc into the dremel because the button which is supposed to grip the shaft seems to have lost its spring

Next up, the daunting task of cutting..

I had to stop after a few minutes though because the drill was getting too hot to hold

At some point the cutting disc flew across the room  so decided safety first, and got out my brand-new pack of safety glasses which I have had for about 20 years.

Starting to make some progress!

More cutting on the other side.

Now to get a grinding disc and file off all the rough bits on the inside!

:o

Reminds me of when I used to share a flat with my mate, he decided on a hot day to build his own DIY fan out of a washing machine motor and an old biscuit tin lid, hand cut to shape with some tin snips.

Unfortunately, he didnt have any plans on how to secure the 'fan' to the spindle and after he plugged the motor directly into the mains and it cranked up to several thousand RPM, the fan flew off and lodged itself into the wall.

Its funny now, but at the time, I was thankful that I wasnt sat in another more fatal part of the room.

I still have a dent in the wall where my rotary spark gap exploded

Saying that, not having any hobbies and just sitting down still is also rather dangerous
