I can probably PM you my files, it's about 62MB zipped if you want to dump that on a SD card and try. All I can say is it works in TOS, but EMUTOS doesn't.
I'd like to try to reproduce that. So, yes, if you'll send me the .zip file I'll test with a SD card on real hardware (instead of in Hatari). I might not be able to test on a real Atari until next weekend or the weekend after that, though.

The test case I made for this has uncovered an EmuTOS bug though, which I'm currently fixing. However, this bug would not have affected in which situation you get the error message. I could only - under certain circumstances - cause EmuTOS to crash after getting the error message about the folder depth.

There's no rush, is not going to hamper anything I am doing currently.

Cool.

I did notice a odd bug in HD11 in which is causes TOS to crash if it find invalid filenames also. Oddly ICD / PP driver doesn't crash. It was why I was wanting to try EMUTOS as it has a built in driver as I wasn't sure if it was a software problem or not a few days ago.

@czietz Never mind then I guess  I just tried EMUTOS again before sending you the file and it worked this time.

My current test files were nothing different than I was using originally. I literally just copied a floppy to C: then copied that folder loads of times. was basically doing that all week and deleting files. EMUTOS came up the error and I went back to TOS and it deleted fine. So not sure why it acted up now sorry!

But in any case I will try deleting all my files in EMUTOS. As TOS crashes, it be interesting to see what EMUTOS makes of it all ;)

BTW - Would invalid filenames crash EMUTOS ? Can't see what they are in EMUTOS while deleting :(

Side quest was this program viewtopic.php?p=103948#p103948 Ironically this does not seem to be enough to trigger the errors. It is most frustrating :(

So I've been working with the A.I. To create a php script which creates 100 folders, each with 100 subfolders, and creates 10 files of random size up to 50kb.

I am thinking if I can at least replicate the deleting problem with a different set of files and folders for starters. Then maybe if I have a known structure I can read the directory continuously to see if that malfunctions.

Well that didn't get very far but at least it failed.I have some other ideas to try out yet as well. These tests are of course with my hacky mods removed as am still trying to find ways of fixing it as much as possible.

I have uploaded my current test files set. It will need it least 220MB partition. Copy them to your SD card then delete them from the GEM desktop and see if it fails. I am using HD11 driver and nothing else.

I put the national blitter back in and still ended up with the same problems with or without my mods. Though I am currently not sure if my mods were only solving the file corruption problems or not.

Anyway, Testing with HD11 Basically always resulted in crashes. I went back to PP's driver and basically it has pretty much deleted all 22,000+ files without any problem.

Weird. Sorry; I have no explanation for why it works now when it didn't before.

I would say that invalid filenames would not crash EmuTOS. However, if not only the filename but also the rest of the directory entry (such as cluster number, length, attributes etc.) were corrupted/invalid, I can imagine situations where it crashes.

I have been doing some more probing particular with DTACK.

Currently I have a 1K pullup and a 33pF cap on it.

Even doing that there is still nearly 3V undershoot  I am using HD11 again as the problems show up easier with it, and Currently it is more than halfway deleting my set of 22,000 files. About 6,000 to go at the time of typing.

Though it is odd that last week the problem was resolved by putting capacitors onto other pins. The thing is , it has been the hottest day in my room so far today. so maybe the fault "moves" depending on temperature.

Once it has finished, I will copy my files back onto the SD card, remove the resistor & cap, and re-test to make sure it still crashes as before.

The test after I will put in a diode to simply remove the undershoot and see if the file successfully delete that way or not.

Not really getting anywhere.

It seems now it only crashes when using HD11 when the blitter is turned on with TOS206.

If I turned the blitter off, HD11 and TOS206 work fine. If I use TOS162 with HD11 with blitter on, it also works fine.

EMUTOS also seems to work fine with blitter enabled.

I've ran BG from the CPU to the MB so I can slow it down, and experiment. Also tried all sorts of pullups and caps on loads of pins. All to no avail.

So I am not even sure if this is a hardware or software fault. How it currently seems, there's a bug in TOS206 when using the blitter with the DMA.

@exxos I hope this advice is helpful, or not completely redundant - but I think you've suffered enough when it comes to STe, ACSI, DMA etc over the years. It's just gonna drag you down and make you frustrated! Perhaps you could put this to bed and then you'll have the energy to work on more fun projects for yourself :)
