Things always tend to escalate don't they ?mrbombermillzy wrote: Fri Sep 02, 2022 7:38 pm A normal/sane person would really wonder how a chair repair would in any way involve the chair exploding/catching fire.

Going back to the flash floppy topic https://exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... 938#p89938 by Keir Fraser.
I used Google mail for emailing him. Though on my tablet it doesn't make sense. As I got my own reply back to myself, even though it was sent to the guy
So I must have sent it to myself somehow but doesn't say in the email headers it was sent to me. I don't think gmail works right. It makes no sense and finding the last reply to a email after clicking on it takes ages.
Anyway... I sent the email again the next day only to have Google mail bounce it back as its been marked as spam
So don't know if he's got my reply, or not, or he's blocked me, or googles blocked me. So I give up.
Either way, its always the same in one respect or another. Email causing me trouble, I used gmail as my server keeps getting blocked as I've mentioned several times before. Then just leaves me wishing I just hadn't have bothered trying to contact another developer . Always ends the same way.
I mean everything these days always just seems a ongoing uphill battle. My tablet updated from android 11 to android 12. I mean, wow its broken. Stuff from android 4 worked better than android 11. Now everything in settings is spaced out for more scrolling , I don't like the dualview GUI. I get the idea but the screens are not big enough for it. Spacing things out making stuff larger just makes things harder to find and causes the user more work. Half the time the sound stops working for no reason. They made the home screen icons even bigger so now there's no room left for anything else without swiping to another screen., you guessed it, more work.
Developers of stuff should hit their hands with a hammer each time they have to click or swipe something, they would soon learn how to create more efficient guis. Doctors will have to bring in the term "Swipe R.S.I." before to long. Or "Flat finger Sydrome"
In old times there was a mystery why people had a worn gap in between their teeth. Was from chewing on a smoking pipe for years. So in years to come, mankind will have a new mystery why humans of our generation all had flat fingers!
My girlfriend is getting frustrated with USB sticks now. Keeps buying all sorts of stuff. Well, USB.. "Utter Sh*t Bus" I'm calling it from now on. Its never been reliable. Her USB stuff keeps getting trashed. Its not like the good old days where stuff was on CD and mostly you just have to give it a wipe and on you go. Mostly you could still recover most of the files even on a badly scratched CD. But flash storage when it decides to corrupt or die for no reason, all your data is gone.
The amount of SSDs I've had fail over the years
I'm mostly going back to spinning drives as while I had problems, they don't tend to just totally die on day for no reason at all. Otherwise buy several more drives to counteract the high failure rate. Manufactures must love their profits while selling junk.
Considering technology makes our lives easier.. At what point does it become a hinderence ? Just look at the amount of times I've had to endless search on Google for stuff because something has broke and nobody knows why or how to fix the issues. We all been there !
Everything has to have a app these days. We are almost there where we need £3,000 smart phone to use a toaster .Then when the phones don't work right.. The apps don't work right... Now you can't make toast for several months until the bugs are fixed in all the software. My girlfriend has issues with apps. Can't topup her electric meter as the apps not working half the time. Websites don't tend to work half the time either. It just not making life any easier at all.
Anyone else just getting sick and tired of technology ?

New piston arrived
Below are the reassembly steps. I put some copper grease on the thing so next time it breaks I can hopefully get it apart a lot easier
Now to find a BETA tester... hmm... MOTHER COME HERE A MINUTE !!!

Yes, absolutely! That's part of my move back to using the Atari's (plus Yamaha multi-track recorders etc.) for MIDI & music...way too much wasted time with updates breaking the system, so all my free time spent repairing the system rather than using it for music etc.
Re: exxos blog - random goings on
I can understand it. IMO these days, it's just update broken stuff, update broken stuff.. or add more broken stuff and by the time it's all fixed , it's all obsolete and back to everything new and broken again. Sometimes you just want to actually use stuff not endless screw around forevermore.JezC wrote: Sun Sep 04, 2022 9:40 pm Yes, absolutely! +1
Last year, my boiler packed in and we had to get a new one. To my utter disgust, the guy fitted a new one which needs app control! (I dont even have a smart phone, so I was pretty livid.) Of course, the guy thought he had done me a great favour. Cant wait for that to go wrong.

Everything is connected. Phone dies, can't open front door, can't pay for a bus, can't pay for food, can't pay for electric.mrbombermillzy wrote: Sun Sep 04, 2022 10:21 pm Last year, my boiler packed in and we had to get a new one. FFS!
Bloody thing snapped off after like 30mins use. Seems the welds didn't stick to anything
So hammered all the old welds off and tried to make it less blobby this time.
My next plan is to hacksaw the block off and 3D print a block and bolt it on the sides to the frame. I doubt ABS be strong enough, but for a prototype it be fine. I think Nylon would be strong enough. But JLC can actually "print" in steel. Problem is time involved in doing all this stuff.. Time I don't have
Next up the UPSU behind the TV is beeping for no reason. It had new batteries not long ago. The blind in the kitchen has broken.. Sh*t breaking never bloody ends
I've not got my PC back together yet even. Always has to be something else which has to take priority.
EDIT:
Now I can't do my tax return as the bank seem to have not sent any of my statements even though I kept clicking NO to go paperless every time. So something else I gotta do now FFS.
EDIT2:
Now the dishwasher isn't working right. I mean there was a grape stuck in the spray bar assembly which is feed from the water mains. How the heck is it even possible for that to get in there ?!?!

Only picture of last night's lighting I managed to capture.
