This is what I mean about the motor. It does the same on the Y motor (probably others as well)

It does move smooth, then seems to "jump". Its not the motor. Maybe I've wired them up wrong somehow

@exxos I guess it's possible the phase rotation of the motor is wrong? Like it's accelerating and then braking. You see this on star delta motors when two wires are the wrong way round causing it to brake as it goes into delta.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

I did wonder that. Though with me using FF motors and Nema 17, the middle 2 wires are swapped on the Nema (shown in video) When swapping them back again, the motor does nothing at all. So not sure what ive screwed up there. I guess I could just swap 3 & 4 to see what happens.

Motor is wired correctly. Smoothie says coils are AA BB, Nema shows ABAB I swapped the middle 2 for the hell of it and the motor doesn't work at all (no surprise).

I did try upping the current but seems the drivers shut down.

Anyone suggest a 3D controller board ? Was looking at duet stuff, but they don't seem to do a USB version :(

Annoyingly boards seem to mostly have the connectors I just changed away from  so either those or screw posts would make life easier..

I couldn't say I'd recommend them as I've no alternative experience, but Geeetech have a nice range on their webpage: https://www.geeetech.com/accessories-co ... 6_115.html

BW
DFB1 Open source 50MHz 030 and TT-RAM accelerator for the Falcon
Smalliermouse ST-optimised USB mouse adapter based on SmallyMouse2
FrontBench The Frontier: Elite 2 intro as a benchmark

Yeah just ordered this one https://www.onetwo3d.co.uk/product/bigt ... ontroller/

The power of the BIQU printer ( will bigtree is actually the same company anyway).

Annoyingly I will have to change all the connectors again

Kind of another nail in the coffin for smoothie board as it uses connectors which no other board seems to use

So the smoothie board creator started messaging me on their own forum. He seems somewhat of a condescending sarcastic chap while simultaneously saying they are helpful friendly community.. yeah right ok then. Basically accused me of wiring it up wrong while he knew all along the problem was. Why bother with all the games ? Waste of time.

I pretty much concluded the board was faulty, and he basically said " he knew all along" because he automatically assumed it was a counterfeit board which was why it didn't work. So why the song and dance just seems rather pathetic to me. But really how could he ? Just based on the assumption something is not working. Also rather arrogant to think that design is never going to fail. It could have been simply shipping damage or generally a failed component, it does happen. Or apparently not.

What do these people expect when they open source things anyway ?! A counterfeit board when you open source something..You open something and people will copy it and produce it, and it is this somehow my fault for buying one of these boards ?! If he did not want the counterfeiting problem then why open source it in the first place. He seems to be splitting hairs as he says I do not have a "smoothieboard".. well maybe yes as it was produced from its own schematics. But not a smoothie board as it was not manufactured by them. sheesh. Talk about splitting hairs.

Even so, I am done with that board and project now. I just cannot be doing with people who act like that. Always seems to be the same on other forums doesn't it ? I guess now I know why it seems rather a deserted place if that is the behaviour of them. I really must stop going on other forums looking for help. Always ends the same way, of why did I bother

Anyway this was the last video I did..

It is running very slowly ( for about a minute) and when it finishes " extruding" 10mm I start upping the speed each time. You can see when it is going faster it seems to behave a lot better. But obviously fails miserably at lower speeds.

It must be the driver chips themselves which have the "current tables" internally for the microstepping must be faulty. Like it tries to do 256 steps, but only gets 128 done, then "jumps" the last 128 micro steps. So I think the drivers are simply faulty. So this smoothieboard is indeed faulty, In whatever definition you class a "smoothie board" as.

Really wish I had the time to just design my own board. One thing is for sure, I will be scrutinising the supplied stepper driver boards when they arrive! it makes me wonder if the previous two boards I had fitted to the flash forge logic board were actually faulty or not.
