PhilCs blog / the latest things hes broken(fixed)
Re: PhilCs blog / the latest things hes broken(fixed)
@JezC happy for you to borrow the 68010 version if you want?
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.
Re: PhilCs blog / the latest things hes broken(fixed)
Been going through my computer collection and doing some of the assessments and repairs on the ones that have just sat in a pile since I bought them (like those 5 or was it 6 TI-99s) and have a couple of working STFMs that I want to sell on but can't remember how much I got them for and don't have a clue of their current values. Looking at eBay, one person has one for £185 which is ridiculous.
I'll probably list them on here for offers in the morning.

A very kind offer - I'd like that, thanks.
No huge rush but definitely interested to see how they run - I've got one of the Cyclone II FPGA-based boards that can run Z80, 6502 or 6809 cores to finish off (built up to a minimal working level but still to add the external SRAM etc.)

@JezC when would you like it?

So whilst I am still in the process of fixing my Reuters monitor, I bought another mono monitor. This time it's a Zenith data systems composite monitor and this time it still works (just jinxed it!)
And in other news, the 68030 Rosco_m68k board is up and running. One of the bits of demo software is a text only adventure game, so I might see if I can get it coupled up to this mono monitor for a bit of retro adventuring for Cyber Legends 4.If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

Those onitors are generally bulletproof. Very little to go wrong.PhilC wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 4:14 pm So whilst I am still in the process of fixing my Reuters monitor, I bought another mono monitor. Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

That's good to know. I'll take it apart and give it a once over at some point.stephen_usher wrote: Sat Mar 29, 2025 4:44 pm

Not too busy this week retrowise so far, yes I know it's only Tuesday.
I've been working on getting my SBCs up and running. The 68030 Rosco is now working well with its own SD card interface now working.
I did some more of the Uterm2 card, thinking id got everything to get that sorted but as usual, I've ran out of 74HCT08s and 1uf ceramic caps.. Annoying. I should have this running next week though. I've been building this as a self contained RS232 interface, so that I don't need fire up Minicom on the Mac each time I want to use an SBC.
In other news, I got my old PS2 off the shelf today and tried to get that to fire up. Of course I've lost the video cable and the cheap AliExpress HDMI adapter doesn't work withy monitor. It does make all the right kind of noises when connected to some speakers though, so hoping the McBazel HDMI interface from Amazon that's arriving will sort that out.
I've decided that I'm going to be putting the PlayStation band back together. I've got a PS1 on order, already have a PS2 as mentioned above, a PS4 Pro and PS5, so just a PS3 to complete the collection.
I might take a leaf out of @mrbombermillzy book and see what I can pick up at a car boot sale.

If you had given me a couple of weeks, I could have filled that order for you.PhilC wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 7:33 pm I've decided that I'm going to be putting the PlayStation band back together. Definitely the abundant consoles at a car boot ATM are PS4/XB360/XB one.
In fact, I must have seen at least 3 PS4s last Sunday (oh and I forgot to mention in my car boot thread, I spotted an Amstrad PCW machine, complete with kb, printer and Green screen monitor).
The thing with consoles at car boots, is they are more likely to be broken (i.e. red ring of death, etc), as opposed to vintage computers, which are generally found in house clearances, or taken down from the loft; hence far more likely to work to some degree and a less risky purchase.
