Adrian's Digital Basement recently did a comparison of the ARMSID and IIRC he concluded he preferred it to the SWINSID, though it is amazing that we have either of these replacements.

I have PokeyMax for my 800XL and 65XE, essentially a dual Pokey in one package, and they can go up to quad Pokey. All brilliant stuff.
Collector of many retro things!
800XL and 65XE both with Ultimate1MB,VBXL/XE & PokeyMax, SIDE3, SDrive Max, 2x 1010 cassette, 2x 1050 one with Happy mod, 3x 2600 Jr, 7800 and Lynx II
Approx 20 STs, including a 520 STM, 520 STFMs, 3x Mega ST, MSTE & 2x 32 Mhz boosted STEs
Plus the rest, totalling around 50 machines including a QL, 3x BBC Model B, Electron, Spectrums, ZX81 etc...

@rubber_jonnie yes I read the review for the armsid and need to listen to the audio examples and see what I think.
No doubt there are some very clever people out there producing these things.

I've been wondering about fitting a pokeymax to my 800.

Yep, I think that's the key, how does it sound to your ear.

As for the PokeyMax, because I have the VBXL video upgrade, I also have a 13 pin video connector similar to the ST, and 1088XEL compatible, so that gives me stereo out through SCART so it's a nice simple solution for me.

This arrived today.

Not the one that went to Corby unfortunately but this one is in much better condition than I expected. I got it to see what the actual difference between the two main types of SID chips was. There's much more high pitch sound coming out of this 8560 compared to the 6581. So far I prefer the older chip but will give this a good test drive before formulating any real opinions.

Nice, very similar to my C64. When will you actually get the Corby one?

Call me a pessimist but I'm willing to bet it won't be there when I get there.

Probably it'll be on @mrbombermillzy's neighbour's doorstep.
