HxC is older than FF, I I find it more compatible. It is also a paid software, but if you have a HxC bootloader, you can (and should) update to the current version.

FF emulates HxC, and uses it's manager (autoboot.hfe), so it is not different from it in usage. Only difference is HxC uses binary config file, while FF uses open text CSV.
