Ok what I’ll do later is create a firmware with the ram not getting added to the system pool. That way we can see if it’s ram or just everything.

alenppc wrote: 18 Dec 2018 12:52 So yesterday I didn't get much testing done since the kids were temperamental however... now the gold CPU I was using originally doesn't boot at all anymore. It looks like it might have died, I have to try it in a TF530.

Another gold CPU decided to start working with or without MMUDIS. The same CPU wouldn't get ram recognized the day before.

It's all very puzzling. Looks like completely random behaviour to me.
Could be a bad PCB Alen ,wont be the first :)
A PCB issue would cause repeatable behaviour. There is an element of unpredictability here which is what doesn't make sense.

It’s possibly a metastability issue. Puzzles me how it worked for a weekend without issue though.

Non-autoconfig version in the repo.

to add the ram in wb use ADDMEM

ADDMEM START 40000000 TO 44000000

The beta testers have a new firmware in their email. Labelled the "drunk" edition.

Summary..

I found the most stubborn CPU that always refused to work and adjusted all the settings while watching the Goonies and drinking wine. I ask you what better way to spend the evening???

It now runs much better. I think there were metastability issues.

Have built a custom 5A PSU (was thinking these issues may be caused by weak CD32 power supply), and done measurements - CD32 with TF330 card and IDE connected needs approx 1.5A, so it's not PSU after all

Confirm my card boots 10/10 times with NO RAM firmware, so yeah, seems issue we have is caused by SDRAM
Also with this no_ram firmware my CD Drive came to live, boots from CD if CD present and boots from IDE if no CD found..

EDIT
drunk FW is not booting on my setup  :(

Ok, flashed the drunk firmware. My stubborn CPU shows some lifesigns now. Still doesn't boot but it freezes or reboots after the IDE check. It wouldn't even get that far on the other firmwares. EDIT: after several resets it booted but no ram detected.

Going to try the non autoconfig firmware now.

Non autoconfig one boots fine, but addmem won't add memory, just crashes the system.

Return to “TF330”
