Hi,

Ordered my H5C1 board at Exxos‘ shop about two weeks back - arrived today, after sitting a week at German customs…

Had all the remaining components prepared for some time and started soldering immediately

First boot was a bit disappointing…
Black screen on my LCD (connected with a high res VGA adapter)
Out of sync message on a different LCD TV with the same adapter
White, flickering screen via a SCART cable to the same TV

OK, did the usual basic checks (voltages, etc,) but no luck
Then remembered a thread here, where a board did not boot because of a fake DS1315
And yes, after pulling the DS1315 and bridging the two pins with a piece of wire, I was presented with a booting TOS1.04

Beautiful, crisp picture - in color and in high res - excellent

At the weekend I will probably continue with the audio mods, and adding a TOS2.06 decoder board

@exxos (or others) is this how the C1 build looks like? I mean all the sockets and components? If so, this should be much better advertised! Many people incl. me have lived under impression that one gets a few SMT components on the PCB and that's it.

Now I'm really tempted.

The last picture shows how it arrived - pretty complete.
Had to add:
SIMM socket
68k sockets (only for add ons if you use a PLCC CPU)
Reset switch
Jacks: ROM-Port, MIDI, DIN13, DIN14, ACSI, Serial, parallel and two 2p headers
The RTC socket, Battery Holder and OSC are optional

Yes, all that is needed as a minimum BOM to solder to the board is:

• Reset switch
• Oscilator
• Monitor Socket
• ROM Cartridge Connector
• 5 PIN MIDI sockets
• 72 PIN SIMM socket
• Header strips for a few connectors if needed (at least the ROM select header needs to be added)
• Jumpers

Of course you then need to add all the ST chipset that just plug into the sockets. Then it's up to you to add on the expansion sockets and other options.

All SMT parts and most sockets are fitted. They all 3M brand sockets which don't break easily like the cheaper ones.

You might be thinking of previous board runs ? Each run had more and more fitted and the price went up accordingly. All the parts and assembly soon add up. There is like £100 worth of parts on the board already and you don't have to fit them yourself or pay someone else to do it.

Despite the trouble with the fake RTC Chip it was working right away

@exxos but this is absolutely amazing! @Steve tried to promote your Phoenix board on AF and AA but even he didn't mention the ease of building such a board. This should be in your eshop on a prominent place, with huge letters and along with the hires photo and Icky's list:

And for about 150 EUR. Wow. Now I regret I don't have any shitty ST/FM at home (I do have one 1040 STFM but it's in too good condition to disassemble... ).

Yes I think some people are confused because there has been many iterations of the board. If you click the (I) icon in the store it takes you to the BOM page where it lists a picture of the board as it is purchased plus all the other potential parts for fitting etc. I think people never click the information icons which is probably where a lot of confusion comes from.

@LarryL Also apologies for hijacking your thread, congratulations on your build! it is customary to post a screenshot of your favourite game running

BTW: although I have clicked the info icon, I was also not 100% sure how much was on the board already, so I have ordered a few sockets etc - having some spares now

Up to now I am esp astonished about the picture quality - in low and in high res. Excellent!
