I really don't understand what's going on with this company (Inventronik) , after I ve complained that the "reflashing" of the board failed twice (all of it via Quartus and it is a procedure that the seller recommended to do this via USB Blaster) he wrote me that my emails were "too much" and later another email that "you have manipulated the board extensively and it is not the one we did send you"

ok guys as I understand : by re-programming the installed FPGA core (with the latest one from THEIR site!!) or re-flashing the latest EmuTOS it's considered from him as "manipulation" .. this is really for LOLz ... the board now is on its way to them and of course I started the returns/repair procedure via the PayPal. I will update when/if they manage to fix their cr*p. thanks!

That is a sad state of affairs indeed :( please let us know how you get on.

I wonder if Wolfgang simply does not want to support Suska anymore. It was more of a WIP development type board. I wonder if this is one of the reasons he no longer sells them. I don't think they were ever very popular like Firebee and others. The project does have a lot of potential but I think there just must be alternatives these days which are better supported.

Of course its likely just one guy and probably just does not have the time to invest in supporting it. I can understand that problem because I am only one person and I simply cannot help everyone who contacts me.

In any case, seems like the final nail in the coffin for Suska I guess. Wolfgang did amazing work with the project but I think he basically did all that work on his own. Without the support of the community then it is understandable that he just will give up on the project :(

Not to mention the extra paperwork that I may have to do , as in the case of the refund I need to fill forms to customs to ask refund for the fees - one additional thing I just learned a few days ago : before to get the Suska I ve asked the guy if he can provide an invoice without VAT as we left EU, he replied that not possible as he has to do a "customs procedure which requires time and also money in the range of 60 to 100 € We have to charge these fees our purchasers." I have no idea how are those things in Germany so I though that would be cheaper to pay just the VAT again here, alas I just learned a few days ago, from a friend that used to run a business in Munich , that this in mis-information, those companies need to do ONLY one application for this and definitely not for every customer as Wolfgang falsely wrote me. I have no doubts he is a FPGA/EE guru but a total failure as salesman.

Yeah the whole VAT thing is madness. I talked about this in another post a while ago. Where basically I got charged VAT twice. I mean who do you dispute it with ? companies just get away with stuff because it just simply is not worth the time and the effort. The amount of money I have just willingly lost because of all this over the years.. It would just be a full-time job and a constant uphill battle and I have enough of those already. :(

I have no idea how you would claim back the VAT charges. Companies are always very quick to take it off you. But trying to do something in reverse.. With all the rules changing and nobody has any idea what is going on anymore. It is even more complicated :( For companies like Aliexpress, they charge the VAT up front. this is how things generally work now. So we would have to have a receipt for your order. All receipts will be grouped together for one declaration of value. But this is a problem I think Wolfgang may have, because if he has charged the VAT, he probably does not have time to reverse the process on that one receipt if it has already gone through his books.

But the old system still seems be in place where the courier charges the VAT when it enters the country at customs. Mix in that stupid £135? cut off thing as well.. That is what led to me being charged VAT twice. But anyway that's another problem.

I had a similar problem last week in fact. Because I'm sending parts to China etc, I end up paying import charges China end. And they also end up paying charges when they are sent back to me in the UK. For one board I just did not bother sending the connectors. Because it would basically cost £100 to send it.. now would equally get charged that in coming back to the UK - bus the additional value of the PCBs etc.. So I said to a guy who's been helping me assemble my power supplies and other bits, if he would assemble the connectors on and have the £200 instead.. I mean sure I'm so out of pocket either way. But I would rather the money go to my mate than just disappear into a VAT void somewhere.

I guess if you have the time and the effort to continuously pursue it then by all means do so of course. But the way I just look at things, is I don't want to spend several weeks or months constantly messing around with something over £50-£100. It is just more cost-effective to forget about it. Big companies win yet again of course.

For all my goods I do not charge VAT and I do not claim VAT back. I just do not want all the headaches involved with even more paperwork. It is bad enough keeping track of my incomings and outgoings about making it even more complicated where the third company's like the tax office can screw it all up even more than they already do.

Anyway I do feel sorry for you that you ended up in this situation. Absolutely nothing is simple these days. Everything has to be as complicated and maximum paperwork as possible. People like me just do not have the time or the patience for it all.

As I ve read it is possible to get back the customs fees (at least the VAT paid) if you return goods abroad :
https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty

The forms there have an option :

* for returned goods – evidence of the refund on goods returned, certificate of posting, cost of repair, and so on

just to update, the seller provided full refund ASAP, thats a plus - he even did not receive yet the suska... I am a bit surprised as he wrote me he would examine it and fix the issues or replace it with one he has in stock. I really thought it would be a fun project, esp as I ve read they are/were plans to to put the code on github , if any news I will update again.

You'd have a lot more fun with a MiSTer but they are probably a LOT more money due to the semiconductor fab prices.
