Tell EMUTOS that

So EMUTOS booting from AUTO shows "EmuTOS Version 20210428" and Is just flashing very slowly and that is all that happens

This has console debug turned on and a few modules debug-enabled.

I've also changed the initinfo timeout to 10 seconds.

How far do you get? Can you read anything or does it vanish? If the latter, do you have a serial cable you can use?

Interesting that you got to to EmuCON on the ROM version, but not even to the initial screen on the prog version (no AltRAM on the prog version either, BTW, so it shouldn't be that).

Anyone faster on the pause key than me see where that got to?

And sorry to labour the point as your previous answer wasn't entirely clear: this is mounted *instead of* the PLCC 68000 rather than in addition to it, yes?

The PRG Version does flash the splash screen occasionally, that is exactly what happens with the ROM version..

I did disable the alt-ram early on in testing yesterday to rule it out already anyway.

I don't think you could run both CPUs like that... It would otherwise be pretty dumb if I just inserted the TF536 "on top" of the 68000.

Argh, so it's not consistent? Sometimes makes it to the welcome screen sometimes not?

EmuTOS probably won't help us here, then. I was hoping we could track down the code that was failing.

I know Stephen did some piggy-back tests over the 68k in his A600 so I wasn't sure if that were supported.

But if it's instead of rather than as well as, so much the simpler.

TBH it sounds like a dodgy connection to me. Perhaps messing up the address bus?

Is the motherboard RST line toggling when this happens?

Yep.

Afew random data bus lines look noisy, so I will finish off tonight and see if I can find some small value caps to solder to snub some noise on them.

I think I'll just conclude that the bus is noisy like I always do. I'll just give it up as a bad job. I'm not really wanting to start diagnosing these old boards again. All this chaos is why I wanted to design a new motherboard in the first place.

Tried some 33pF's but no dice.

EDIT:

It does get to desktop at 8MHz. So must be something tripping up somewhere at the higher speed  I have had a 68000 running at 40MHz on the STE before now, but not 50Mhz.
