Re: The great 68k socket shortage of 2020
I wish that I could find stamped 64 way, 2.54mm DIP sockets. I could then use square header pins and the whole stack would be far lower profile.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

My source of branded sockets at a sane price seems to have hit a dead end.. so I am hunting around China to see what my contacts can find me over there.

I know how much you love eBay, but FWIW, I've bought a bunch of sockets from this listing, and they are pretty high quality: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IC-Sockets-6 ... 3063957924

Its the 64way ones which is the issue.. I only really buy stuff which is hard to find or have to buy in bulk. no use in me stocking generic stuff as people can buy the stuff from pretty much anywhere.derkom wrote: 27 Nov 2020 11:37 I know how much you love eBay, but FWIW, I've bought a bunch of sockets from this listing, and they are pretty high quality: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IC-Sockets-6 ... 3063957924

It seems the price RS and Farnell etc are not going down. Long story short, there are manufacturing / supply issues.
I have 2 possible sources of sockets, but the price in my store will go up unfortunatly. I think the current price is £3 a socket, but I won't even be able to buy them for that now. I still want to be cheaper than RS.. In any case, I will keep the price in my store the same until that stock runs out.. So 3 2 1.. Go! :lol:
