Dumb PSU Question

Post by Methanoid »

So, I have a 520ST stubbie and need a PSU. Was building an external box as original but then thought, what about using one of these (rather than a Pico) as it can have the input replaced by a USB-C connector and will provide the necessary voltages.... and then just need a source USB-PD 45w external brick?

Am I mad? Or missing something?

You could I suppose but I think everybody is going a bit mad with PD supplies lately trying to shoehorn them into everything.

This is what I did: 520ST PSU replacement

You don't have to use a 3d printed case, any large enough case will work and the PSU works great for the 520ST and has more than enough power.

Up to you, just giving you options :)

I do have a Meanwell and a box but an internal PSU for a Stubbie might be nice... I'm just wondering if that PSU Adapter gives enough juice... And given it is from China, can I trust the specs? I mean if ALL 5V outputs are at 2A I could join some together?

Oh, and one other think I noticed, the USB C is an output not an input and the whole thing is powered by an ATX PSU as far as I can see.

It doesn't run off PD at all from what the specs say, just has PD out.

Having watched the video the barrel jack between the terminals can be used for power in place of the ATX PSU, however your original post says you want to power it using USB C and the video shows USB C only as an output (PD controllable), not a source of power for the board itself and that is also backed up by the specs.

If you mean you want to power it by barrel jack and use it for the ST it will likely be fine, but it doesn't look like you can run it off USB C.

And I just noticed your last post, so that's a bust too.

Looks like it could be useful though.
