Since it halted in InitMfp it was either on an MFP1 or MFP2 write, so I would try poking at them to verify if it's a particular MFP access, or both, or just anything on the 68150 side of the bus in general that is the issue.

I think I would have tried these three tests to see if it would lock up on any of them:
Run them in the monitor program, using the connected serial terminal.

(Write to $55 to YM2149 register $0b and then read back the value)

Code: Select all

pb $a1000800 $0b
pb $a1000802 $55
pb $a1000800
(Read from an MFP1 register, write $55 to it, read back the value)

Code: Select all

pb $a1000a27
pb $a1000a27 $55
pb $a1000a27
(Read from an MFP2 register, write $55 to it, read back the value)

Code: Select all

pb $a0000a27
pb $a0000a27 $55
pb $a0000a27

That sounds less than ideal :)

Issuing any of those commands crashes it.

I didn't have a spare LS148 so I reused the old one, but I don't know if it survived being backward so I may have to give up until a new one arrives :(

Thanks for your help. I'll run those tests again once Im back up and running

@sety I did the same with U101 and it killed the chip, big burn mark in the middle.

Hopefully you'll be up and running once you've replaced it though.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

It's good to know I'm not the only one

I wasn't paying attention, placed U102 and then just placed U101 the same way just because they look similar haha

Aww poop!

I got home all excited with my new U101 and fitted it, exact same problem. Crashes at MFP init, and poking anything outside of the MFP causes the system to stop responding.

I'm getting really sus about those eBay MFPs I used. I have an old ST Board that I wasn't planning on resurrecting. Wondering if it is worth salvaging the MFP - At least it isn't from eBay

Oh it also resets twice before attempting to start and this is very repeatable. It doesn't do it if I use the reset button while powered on.

Code: Select all

RAVEN060

RAVEN060

RAVEN060

CPU: M68060R6
SIMM0: 01000000
SIMM1: 00000000
SIMM2: 00000000
SIMM3: 00100000

InitHeap
InitUart
InitIkbd
InitMfp
So I might have messed something up elsewhere?

Thanks guys!

YEYESSS!!!!!!!!!! I would have been happy too see anything on screen at this stage, but a full boot! I was not expecting that!

I was away for so long because I was waiting for MC68150 to get posted.

Sorry PLCC-86 socket, I some how thought you were for an optional FPU, you look identical.

Keyboard and mouse aren't working yet, but I'm assuming they need drivers? I have never had Eiffel.

Is the procedure from here forth to set up the IDE filesystem on a different machine and then transplant it?

I'm quite excited, not going to lie!

Well done to get it booting.

:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Another Raven flies. :)

The PS2 keyboard and mouse should work as long as the Eiffel chip is programmed. No drivers needed.

Yes, IDE disk is the next step.

Oops! I see where I messed up! It had been so long since I had used my programmer that couldn't remember how the PIC chip fits and I cooked the two from Mouser. I got one off the shelf from Altronics, pin compatible but it's like the LC version or something. Different timing.

I will get a new PIC and it should be good to go!
