TF1232 IDE issue

Post by muteki »

Hi,

I recently bought a TF1232 from @supaduper and I've been having some issues with the TF IDE interface. After quite a few test scenarios and testing on a clean 3.2.2.1 both @supaduper and myself were able to reproduce the same issue:

R/W a large amount of data leads to a system freeze.
For example:
-Copying larger amounts of data (either one or more files, but >100MB total) in Dopus4 will randomly freeze the system
-Scanning a large directory with TinyLauncher will randomly freeze the system

The issue can be reproduced on 3.2.2.1 (tested by @supaduper on 3.1 and no issues there).
We both tested IDE>SD and IDE>CF adapters, different cards, FFS and PFS3 partitions, different block sizes, with/without buffered adapter and the issue always happens.
On the onboard IDE interface, it works as expected without freezes.

I was discussing this issue on Amibay and supaduper is going to report it directly, but I thought it would be useful to have a thread here in case some other users are experiencing the same.

What you didn't specify is which version of ehide.device you are using. I have had a report that there was an issue with cards bigger than 8GB with ehide.device v1.2, but not with 1.1. So I think it would be nice to try and see if you could reproduce this on a specific version of ehide.device, or are they all affected?

In my case I was using ehide.device 1.2 with an 8GB and a 32GB card. I had lock ups with both cards.

Unfortunately, I have no access to an EPROM burner in the upcoming weeks, so difficult for me to test before a while

Just burned and tested ehide v1.2 and v1.1 it is still the same it lockups after a short while

And I tested it with OS 3.1.4 and it locks up, just to add I tried transfers on another Amiga file manager and it still locks up so it is not Dopus :)

Also talking to Eric the ehide developer I will test the file transfers on the TF1260 and TF1230 to see if we have the same issue

Edit:

so I tested the file transfers on the TF1230 and yes it has the same issue with locking up on os 3.2.2.1

But the TF1260 is fine it has no issues at all with file transfers

Ok i have a setup here that does not reproduce the issue.

1, OS3.2. Its a custom rom given to me by @supaduper that has ehide in the rom.
2. I'm using a SD Card adapter on the TFIde port.
3. TF1232 with latest FW (no local mods)

versions..

Code: Select all

Kickstart 47.96, Workbench 47.2 (04/10/2021)
ehide.device 1.1 (06/18/2021) Built on 18 Jun 2021 / 15:59:03 (d2874a8)
The attached tool keeps reading a disk over and over and will eventually repo the issue in problematic systems.
readdisk.exe.zip

Code: Select all

readdisk.exe ehide.device
Have also attached the FW i am using but i think its what everyone already has.

Thanks for all the info and testing!

Just wondering about a couple of things:
-Does it mean that Kickstart 3.2.2 (47.111) is not supported (or that it is assumed that this version will crash when using the TF IDE)?
-Same question for ehide: Is ehide.device 1.2 not supported?
- @supaduper Can you confirm that my TF1232 has the 2024_02_22 firmware version?

TBH its what i had at hand to test quickly. I can try soft loading ehide.device next.
