Fixing my C128D
Re: Fixing my C128D
So the C128 remake boards are here and I've started to slowly assemble one of them. Slow being the operative word. <Let's just say I shouldn't be soldering at the mo.
So I have a whole load of chips to test ready for this new board and I decided I'd have another go at the stubborn C128 board. Well guess what, after linking and LA, getting the scope and the fluke out and suddenly I find out that the inverter on the AEC line has died. So swapped out the 7406 for a new one and:

Re: Fixing my C128D
Obviously getting this fixed has boosted my confidence immensely when it comes to C128's as very little is properly documented on how they should work but I'd like to think that right now, if I had another to fix and diagnose I could likely do it with what I've learnt.
Word of advice for anyone thinking of fixing a C128, don't, unless you're feeling lucky

Re: Fixing my C128D
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Re: Fixing my C128D
Just logged in to say congrats on getting the C128 fully running at last Phil.
Hopefully you'll take care and ease up on the soldering jobs for a while.

Re: Fixing my C128D
PM me when you get a chance and we can discuss it.
I'll post a photo of the board as it is now for reference.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.
Re: Fixing my C128D
So here’s the board in all its fixed glory, or something like that.
I’d removed the RF and fitted an S video and 3.5 stereo jack board.
And then socketed and replaced some of the logic chips and replaced the 8502 and Z80. Replaced some of the roms but the originals can probably go back in as the replacements were for diagnostic purposes.
