So, it seems my assertion that the lower spares board lower 16KB RAM was fine is incorrect, at least partly. I do know the RAM ICs are all good having tested them separately in a dedicated RAM tester, though, which leaves the logic.

The diagrom should first beep then test the first 16K of RAM and then the upper 32K RAM before exiting to a menu, and then looping through the RAM tests if left to it's own devices.

The spares machine just gives garbage on screen

Given the RAM ICs are all tested good, this leaves IC3 & IC4 - 74LS157 Multiplexers and the 74LS00 quad NAND gate as suspects. Luckily I have spares for both, though I'm waiting on sockets just now.

So I'll have to wait until they arrive.

I'm glad that it survived ParcelFarce. :-)
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.
