I doubt Atari will make any ST compatible hardware, what I would buy the instant it came out would be a modern mini x86 PC in a smaller MegaSTE / TT styled case, you could run any emulators you want on it. It will never happen but it would be awesome.

Someone was designing a MSTE case not long ago. It's not hard to stick a mini pc in a case.

Well in my case I would want a real computer that could run software I already own, a 3/4 size PC that looked exactly like my TT and Mega STE would sit on my desk and be my main all purpose computer. I have lots of Arm SBC computers and while they are good for some things, sometimes you may want to do more.

A *small* amount of software is more likely.

My money is on a special edition of some sort from Jeff Minter since he and Atari have had a decent relationship over the years. Plus he's released Tempest 4000 and Akah Ahr (or whatever it's called) on the VCS recently. One of the few devs that seemed to like both the ST and the Jag.

He must have a truck load of unfinished code for the machine.

T3K was contentious when Atari's lawyers went after him, and clearly they made good with him for T4K and then Akka Arrh, but a few years ago that was no given. Again, current Atari ownership seems much better now than it was. I don't imagine anything from Jeff being for retro machines, though.

Ah, I didn't know that but he seems on good terms with them now.

I've just re-read an interview from a last year. Given their love for new tech like VR, a new game for an old platform does seem highly unlikely
but a polished old/unreleased game would be cool.

I'm less optimistic today - I'm not hopeful of seeing anything for the ST but tbh it wouldn't bother me at all
I'm more interested in new homebrew than limited edition releases.

I don't know what happend with that guy who designed the VCS and never got paid ? There seems to be various bits of bad blood there. Though "We have a new CEO so all good now". Fair enough I guess. But Reading on AA, its still somewhat of a concern.

For me personally, I don't do work for companies anymore as I always get ripped off. Not saying the "new new new new Atari" is going to do that. But I can understand the concerns with it all.

Some people view me as some evil cooperate monster. They forget I have been around for like 30 years and given literally endless thousands of hours leaning and producing upgrades and finding faults, all given away for free. Dealing with suppliers, looking for best deals on parts, doing emails all day, is daunting to say the least. This forum and my whole domain gets funded from my own pocket basically. But money comes from store sales mostly, all work I have done for free. So I will never turn a profit on this stuff. The forum & server takes MANY hours to keep updated. My store code doesn't write itself. Shipping doesn't magically happen. All takes time and all done for free. "Bad blood" unfortunately sticks despite all the good which has come over the years.

100% you will see Atari ST projects down the road. What they are specifically, I cannot say. But there is so much good content from that era it would be a crime not to share it more broadly. This is an area where I think we are all aligned.

Been following the thread of sorts and it's getting kinda "painful" now. I do see the points about Stella. But it's just turning into another bashing thread now. I mean the last "taco thread" was plain stupid. That's where freedom of speech gets you i guess.

Reminds me over that 3d printer board "smoothie board" where it's creator open sourced it, clones were done, I didn't know any of this at the time, then I got insulted because I asked for help and bought a inferior clone. I mean if your giving something away you deal the conciquenses, not insult it's users for one's own bad decisions

At the end of the day, whoever Atari are these days, at least they are trying to keep the spirit alive. It's more than most of the people in that thread are doing.
