A600GS Report

Post by terriblefire »

Saw this on Amibay.

https://www.amibay.com/threads/a600gs.2446873/
Too early to market, software needs a lot of work. Audio over HDMI doesn’t work yet, no full hdmi port on the back, cheap tat of a controller, cheap sticker over joypad buttons , slow to boot, etc etc . I was just intrigued to see what it was like… and don’t recommend this to anyone. If you really want it then £140 plus postage PayPal friends and family no returns on this item - it’s pants and you have been warned !
Thought I would disseminate so that people aren't tempted to buy one without knowing.

Lie, lies and damned lies?

I pre-ordered mine. Not arrived yet.

The "audio over HDMI doesn't work yet" was discussed in a video by Steve Jones of Checkmate cases yesterday and he has since explained in the comments that it was user error.

Interesting. Doesnt make sense why someone would sell something saying its rubbish though?

I still dont really see the point of the A600GS. (but happy to be enlightened)

There isn't one. That's what makes it so Amiga. You'd be mad to get one.

Buy an RPi5 and a USB->9-pin D adapter and you've probably got a much better solution.

What does it do that the A500 mini doesn't do?

(And I mean the guts of it and the user interface + software. Not whether it uses native joysticks or not, there are enough adapters out there to make anything work with anything.)

I've not received mine yet. Only people who bought one at RetCon last week have them in their hands.

It has 4GB of RAM and a much faster ARM SoC than the A500 mini. Unlike the A500 Mini they are reportedly actively working on improved OS components that can take advantage of the emulation environment the most interesting of which is native code execution which includes host OS acceleration (a bit like 2D and 3D acceleration in WinUAE) but I'm not sure if they have a "killer" app yet.

I bought it mainly as Objet d'art

For me this kind of product has to be perfect out of the box otherwise you might as well not bother.

A feeling I share and have fed back to Amigakit. A delayed launch is million times better than a botched launch.

The issue with the decals on the controller is inexcusable.
