TF - EHIDE (Internal IDE header) - chat and light hacks

With both the TF1230 and TF1260 featuring the IDE header and ehide.device I wonder if it is best to have a dedicated Forum Section to capture chat and discussion?

Anyhoo, my first question is, has anyone hacked the CF adaptor to connect the drive access light to the main Amiga LED lights?
Can it be done or is the way it works not as simple as disconnecting some wires and soldering on some more?
Did I read the CF adaptor is 3.3v.
Maybe I could desolder the CF adaptor LED and move it near the normal LED lights. I wonder if positioned correctly, the light will shine up through the existing LED? The plastic of the original LEDs look a little like a light pipe.
I could easily loose the Floppy light as with a disk drive you certainly can hear when the beast is being accessed?

I got my Light Hack done.
I had an AmigaKit A1200 keyboard LED panel sat waiting for my A1200.net case.
They use 2 LEDs side by side. So I cut the tracks and did a bit of rebuilding to get 1 LED working for A1200 IDE, then wired an extension from my CF adaptor (pins 41 +5v & 39 activity signal) to my AmigaKit LED panel.
Because the HD access LEDs are now not in series I increased the resistance.
So left is A1200 IDE and right is TF IDE. Seems ok

Would you have any more pics and guidance for a relative noob who might want to do something similar but to the LEDs on a checkmate case?
:D :D :D

I downloaded the AGABlaster CDXL player a while back and it would be stuck at 11fps when playing files from either the onboard IDE or a CF card in the PCMCIA slot in my A1200, as expected from the stats on the website. Having got a TF1260 it's the same when using onboard IDE but the lovely EHIDE interface gives full 24fps playback and it looks really good.

You can get it and some demo files from here:

Sorry for the delay. I am not sure if I can help much.
I expect the Checkmate has a header that connects from its LEDs to the A1200 motherboard. So you want to cut the signal cable which goes to the Checkmates HD access light.
Then solder 2 wires from the CF adaptor pins (see my earlier post for which pins) to the Checkmates LED board.
Now you might not need the Negative wire from the CF adaptor as it might already be connected via the IDE cable through to the Amiga's PCB. (Electronics not my strong point :) ).
Now if you are asking about dual LED access, I don't know if the Checkmate uses a double LED as per the AmigaKit replacement A1200 keyboard LED set. Or it just uses 1 LED per Power/Floppy/Hard Drive access.

Hi - bit late to this but Higgy’s solution sounds pretty great to me. I’ll be ordering up an Amigakit LeD today. Just wondering if anyway has any photographs or idiot instructions on this?

When your AmigaKit LEDs turn up, can you take a pic of the back and PM me it please.
I should be able to mark up the picture with what I have done.
I will also try to mark up a photo of an IDE-CF adaptor with the other wires.

My IDE-CF adaptor is under my disk drive because I use a back-plate adaptor for easy CF swapping so it is not easy to get at.

Thankyou! I’ll be sure to do that :-) ordered up today so I guess it will be a week or two before it turns up here. Cheers!

Hi @Lamaman1971

I think I will pop open my case and take some pics. Reading what I did in the post and remembering what I did is proving difficult!

Hopefully temp will drop off later on in the week and I will have a look inside my 1200.
