Deviating from the path....

Post by terriblefire »

I've said this in a kinda distributed way but i'll say it again.

If you ask something that deviates from the standard usage of a TF card.. e.g.

1. will chip X work on the TFXXX instead of the one in the BOM?
2. does XYZ configuration work?
3. Could i use a different voltage here...

The answer is probably "I dont know". The reason i don't know is because its difficult enough to keep all the information about all the cards i have made with the standard use cases in my head. I'm simply not smart enough to be able to tell you if these variations will work. If you want "supported" ways of doing things stick to the well trodden path.

Thats not to say i want to discourage you from trying something and reporting it. And I understand that people want to tinker in their hobby spaces. But you need to understand you're probably going to fail and its going to be a lot lot lot more work to get what you want from it than following the standard path. Do not do something like this to save money. You will likely not save money. Especially if money is tight for you might end up in a miserable situation and start blaming me for it. If you do this you will be conducting an experiment and doing basically what i do when trying to get a card to work. And since i've chosen not to go down that road already its probably not something i want to help with. I've loads of my own tinkering to get on with etc.

That said i encourage experimentation so long as you're not inviting other users to blatantly abuse their hardware and cause it to fail. E.g. over voltaging chips etc.

I think this pretty much applies to all projects on the site but its directly related to my experience with TF cards.

Just because a lot of people agree on something, doesn't make it a fact. ~exxos ~
People should find solutions to problems, not find problems with solutions.
