FS. 2 x Commodore C128 computers

Post by PhilC »

Hi All,

So the story is that when my C128D failed just before Cyber Legends, I scoured eBay for C128 motherboards, computers etc to try and fix the C128D before CL.

I did get it fixed but in my panic, I bought 3 whole C128s and one with no keyboard.

So I’ve had a bit of fun getting these working and am now going to sell them on, for what I hope is a reasonable price considering they needed to be fixed up,!some new chips, that sort of thing.

I’m going to put them on eBay later on but if someone on the forum wants one I’ll sell them on here for a small discount.

Photos to follow in the next couple of posts, one is in nice condition and I’d like £300 or best offer and the other is £250 or best offer. but is a bit on the dirty side, has had some keys replaced but is still fully working.

Further details in a mo

This is the one for £250.

There were a few broken key stems and missing keys on this one. I replaced the stems or whatever they are really called and fitted some keys from an old Plus/4 keyboard that I’ve got in my spare’s piles. Yes they are odd keys but they do work and could be sprayed grey or replaced. I’ve not seen any original keys for anything resembling realistic on eBay. Some dirt here and there and a few marks on the bottom, looks to have had some initials on the bottom.

The computer has had the MMU put into some header pins and then in to the socket for some reason. I did do some basic stuff to this one but not a great deal as it works but had been repaired by someone else previously.I did remove the ram on this and replace it with a Saurman 128 PCB due to the ram being mostly dead.

Tested with a Kung Fu Cart and works fine in 64 and 128 mode.

It comes with a PSU

(nearly forgot to say, this one does not have a power LED.)

This is the £300 computer, it’s in pretty good external condition but has the odd mark here and there.

This one needed a few logic chips, MMU and a VIC replaced, probably cost around £50 just for the chips.

It has had the top RF shield removed and heat sinks fitted to all the larger chips to prevent overheating which did happen apparently thanks to the poor conductivity of the top shield as a giant heat sink.

This has again been tested using a Kung Fu cart and a C128 Diag cart and works fine in both 64 & 128 modes.

It also comes with a PSU.
