OSSC - mod to allow CRT mask emulation. Anyone tried?

Post by Higgy »

Hi,

There is new OSSC hardware v1.8 and this has firmware which allows for CRT mask emulation.

Now on the MiSTer you can add CRT mask filters and I think they look good.

If you have an older OSSC pcb then you can do a hardware mod and then also use CRT mask emulation. Mod is here:

https://www.retrorgb.com/ossc-v1-8-hard ... lable.html

Now has anyone done this? And is it really good?
(I see the link above now has a video showing the mask in action, as previously I've not found any footage of what it actually looks like, so I will watch it later).

On my OSSC the heatsink is so large it overhangs the pins, so I would have to heat up the heat sink to soften/break glue to remove it. So I was not so keen.
I bought my OSSC more for the future, as I've currently got loads of CRTs and had a bit of spare money and wanted to futureproof my display options. So I've not extensively used it.

I only use it with my ST currently, so the less noise the better :D
Looks interesting though

Cool. Whats next? Phosphor variable persistence emulation? (That would be ideal for the Amigas interlace modes).
