STe/ST video out port Q's

I'm going to be making myself something that plugs into the RGB port, providing a mono on-off switch & sound output. (To be used in conjunction with rgb2hdmi, so I can swap between colour/mono and have sound output)

Looking at the schematic, is it true that grounding pin 4 of the connector will enable mono mode?

Also for sound output, does the STe output stereo or mono from the monitor port? I can only see audio going to pin 1, but there is also something called AUDIOI on pin 5. Can I wire it up so that I can get mono out when plugged into an ST, and stereo when plugged into an STe?

I'm reasonably sure that it will be mono sound (Or L&R mixed) that is sent out on Pin 1. I also think the MONO pin to GND statement is true.

Pin 5 on the other hand, or AUDIOI is audio in and not another audio out. It takes an external audio stream and mixes it with the Atari sound before sending it out on pin 1.

Have a look at the Atari video connector here: Atari connectors it'll give you a much clearer view of what the pins do.

Of course on the STE you have phono style audio sockets for L&R, that's a better place to take audio from, especially since I don't think you'd have enough spare pins on the 13 pin DIN socket to allow for L&R channel output.

Voila, the fruits of my labours:
(These plug into the back of an ST that has RGB2HDMI installed providing a switch to change between colour and mono plus an audio output, now I don't need to use my ST-VGA adaptors for this purpose anymore)
