Okay, Lotharek has a newer version of the internal Ultrasatan on his website and I picked one up the other day. I also bought the adapter cable to go along with it.
I posted in other places about how he's changed the mounting holes and the width on the slots for the 2 SD-cards already.
Now, according to his website, power can come directly from the adapter/cable:
"since 2024 revision 1.2 is sold - adapter supplies power directly to USATAN on pin 20 of IDC connector /please, refer to USATAN INTERNAL page/just CONNECT 5V from ATARI PCB to adapter solder point."
And here's the pictures, including the schematics:
This setup doesn't work if just plugged in (I tried ) .
So it looks like +5v has to come from the motherboard somewhere and fed to the adapter?
I'm not sure I'm seeing the advantage to this compared to the last generation internal US where you fed +5v directly to the US from the motherboard. This model still has a connector for that.
Thanks.

Re: New internal Ultrasatan (Lotharek)
Well looking at the pics and schematic it seems that pin 20 on SV1 isn't connected to the 5v pins on SV2. Looks like a trace is missing, so it may be a mistake, but fixable with a bodge wire.

Well, I think it was deliberately left off - if I'm reading the part that I quoted correctly,
and it's up to the end user to choose whether to power it directly or from the adapter.
Again, if I'm reading that right.
Now, if I decide to move forward with this, then I'd need to add a "bodge" wire here:
Is that right? Thanks.

Re: New internal Ultrasatan (Lotharek)
A little difficult to tell because of the black PCB, but pin 20 of SV1 to pin 28, 29 or 30 of SV2. I'd double check that pin 20 is 5v for the US though.Darklord wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 11:19 pm Well, I think it was deliberately left off - if I'm reading the part that I quoted correctly,

Re: New internal Ultrasatan (Lotharek)
Well, I installed a bodge wire there but it still won't operate.
I checked for continuity both ways between 20 and 30 and the
meter says it's there.
It goes straight to the floppy drive/desktop though.
Think I'll fire off an e-mail to Lotharek and see if he can tell
me what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks for the help, appreciated.

Re: New internal Ultrasatan (Lotharek)
Never mind, I figured it out. Just me being dense as usual.
It's not on the adapter/cable at all. In the quote I pasted above,
it says see the internal US page.
There, it tells you that it's on the bottom of the US itself that
you have to bridge a connector.
Here is the picture:
It seems to be working now.
