32 MHz Booster and Memory Issues

Post by Glorfindeal »

I have the v1.0 booster installed in my STe. When I run a memory check using the diagnostic cartridge, I get memory failure when running 32Mhz. This happens with both the 4 MB modules I got from from Exxos and the 4MB modules I already owned. Both pass at 8 MHz. When I run the latest version of Gembench, it always bombs when it starts the memory test, both at 8 MHz and 32 MHz. Any ideas?

Thanks,

What is the difference between an external and internal blitter?

Do you have a chip where the blue arrow is pointing, or do you have pads like in the picture? If you have a chip there, you have an external blitter. If you have pads, you have an internal blitter.

I took the computer apart so I could see the accelerator board. It is external blitter. I checked the resistor that is soldered in R1. It is already 470R. The capacitor shows 50 on it so I assume it is 50 pf.

Any other ideas?

You could try the internal blitter mod instead and see if that works. There doesn't seem to be any consistency with the 8MHz clock which makes it difficult to product a "one size fits all" solution. I am beta testing a new firmware to avoid using the 8mhz clock all together for future boards.

Well, I’ve been doing some testing and it looks like my issue isn’t the accelerator. I was running under Peter’s TOS 2.16 and that seems to be the problem. Swapping to 1.62 and I have no problems. I’ll have to keep running under 2.16 and see if I have problems running other programs. If I do I’ll have to put the T0S 1.62/2.06 rom back in place.

Well I can't say how these odd TOS versions will work. I think someone else a few weeks ago mentioned similar problems. I only use TOS206 for my testing. But also you need 55ns ROM or faster in the dualtos board else you will also have problems.

I used 50ns roms.
