OK, so I have the new Fat Agnus socket:

I'll hopefully be able to get this done later today, and if my new microscope arrives in good time I'll have a closer look at the old socket.

Hmm OK, so the new socket is in and I still have the same symptom. No boot at all, just the insert workbench image.

It's very odd as it had been working fine and booting prior to me removing the Fat Agnus. Then new socket is now in, but no change to the symptoms.

In case I have a bad usb stick (I'm using a Gotek) I'm going to try another, you never know but now worried I have a bad CIA or Gary...

EDIT: It isn't the USB stick as far as I can tell.

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

If you were hoping it was the USB stick, it wasn't.

I've forgotten which chip runs the floppy on the Amiga.

P.S. Just looked it up... it's Gary. Time for a new Gary socket if it's single wipe?

I refitted the original drive and it does much the same thing as the Gotek. A basic indication of a seek and a motor spin, after that it drops back to the workbench disk request screen.

/DKRD goes to Paula pin 37... So that may be the place to look.

Well going by the schematic, Paula, Gary and one of the CIA's have a hand in the FDD...

I have reflowed the sockets for all, but no change. All of the sockets are double wipe and I've scooshed them with contact cleaner.

I think the next step is going to be a probe of the various signals, see what isn't getting through. I'm also wondering if it could be the fact that I desoldered the IC spaces on the board? If there is a dodgy via, being empty of solder may have broken a connection.
