Mine needed a CPU and VLA81.
Actually, I need to correct myself. I think its the curse of the single wipe sockets.....

The screen is flickering every 5 seconds or so, probably due to this back porch mod but all good now :D

If you have a back porch mod, it may be clashing with the VLA81, worth checking out the manual and dip switch settings.

As for single wipe sockets, I like to bin them ASAP!!

@rubber_jonnie yes it looks like it was clashing.

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

And a couple of dual wipe socket replacements and now we are up and running, although next was to test the Memopak 16k ram pack, which you've guessed it, doesn't work :lol:

I guarantee it's the edge connector, give it a clean with IPA and a spot of contact cleaner and she'll be right 😁

The screen flickering was actually due to one of the electrolytic caps, so I'll get those replaced as soon as possible but looking good so far.

I would never have dreamed of a ZX81 on a VGA screen back when I was 11.
