Sorry, but I missed the chat a bit earlier about real vs SD based C64 drives.
I was under the impression that alot of C64 scene demos will not work with the emulated drive. (From what I figured, the root of the problem was Krills loader, which is found on a very high no of demos wouldn't work with them).
I don't think SD2IEC works because of this, but I THINK the Pi1541 can do a higher percentage (not 100% though). Not sure about the others as I don't have them.
Anyone else found this?

Yeah the SD2IEC is not cycle exact, U1541II+ is, and I think pi1541 either is cycle exact or very close. Anything that uploads code to the 1541 to be executed won't work on an SD2IEC, and the demo loads almost all did that for their fastloader code.

Yeah, I watched a vid on YouTube the other day saying that there was a reliance on the 1541 timing and the ability to load code to the 1541.
TBH I am not really a demo person, so not unduly worried as long as I can get games to work. I do have a fast load cart so that gets me round the inevitable 1541/SD2IEC slowness.
On a VIC-20 side note, I have been looking at why the modulator box isn't working, and it looks like no power.
All seems good in the Modulator box end, but at the DIN plug end, the GND wire has fallen off, which would explain a lot.
Bit of rewiring and it should be as good as new

You should get yourself a Kung-Fu Flash cartridge. It works in the VIC=20 as well as the C64.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

I presume it's 2 different versions though since they have different cartridge ports?

Oh, I thought that it worked on both. My mistake.

Sadly not, the carts are very different, but I think I will get a Kung Fu Flash for the C64 and probably a Final Expansion card for the VIC-20.
There is a Penultimate Cart, but it seems like you can't add your own content, so you're stuck with what's on it.

Looking at prices., it's going to be nearly £100 for a Kung Fu Flash and something comparable for the VIC, so it'll have to wait until next month.stephen_usher wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 2:41 pm You should get yourself a Kung-Fu Flash cartridge. It works in the VIC=20 as well as the C64.

Re: Whoops, I did it again! VIC-20 on the way...
I think the penultimate cart can control an SD2IEC - but I'm not sure if it will load a cart image from that, probably worth a read up as that would be a great solution if it can.
