Yeah. A "cheap" one I can see is about £1400 with good ones in the region of £4000.rubber_jonnie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 16, 2023 2:00 pmYeah, they seem a bit on the expensive side that's for sure, and probably more than you'd want to pay for repairing an old B&W TV.stephen_usher wrote: ↑Mon Oct 16, 2023 1:18 pm Not sure how far I can get without a sweep generator though. I can use computers as a test pattern generator though, so that's OK.

Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.

Re: General Stuff(tm)
I took the TV apart so I could get to the variable capacitors, which were obviously under the tube.
Twiddled them and I have a reasonable picture and sound at the same time! Woo!
But I found the fault which was causing the poor reception and that was the connector between the tuner and main board. The one of the tines of the connector for the RF has either corroded enough to break or has just broken. There's nothing for it other then to desolder the leads from the plug and solder them directly onto the pins of the motherboard unfortunately.

More twiddling and a bit of soldering later...
Still a little wibbly-wobbliness but none of the tweaking seemed to make any difference to the interference on the screen. But at least both the sound and vision work.

Yeah... There was a lot more of it, and fluffage, before I cleaned it out. You couldn't see the PCB at all.

Re: General Stuff(tm)
I'm back down at my Dad's house in Cornwall. It would now be more accurately described as my Cornish residence as the paperwork has come through from the Probate Office.
My job today has been deconstructing the "front bedroom" computer room and bringing it down to the staging area in my old bedroom.
As part of this my old work bench/table made form an internal door and two bedside cabinets (all bought from MFI in the Summer of 1987 and moved down from Bedford with us at the end of that year) came down stairs for the first time in about 30 years and back into the room where I hacked on the MiNT kernel and ported BSD utils all those years ago.
The advantage of this design of workbench is that it's so light. The heaviest parts to bring down were the full draws.
Anyway, that's one more step in the deconstruction of the "living house". In the next few months I'm going to have to drive down with a van and collect the things I want to keep before getting the house cleared and sold.
Tomorrow I pick up my Dad's car from the garage where it's been renovated. It was originally my car which I bought from new in November 2000 but gave to my dad in 2007 when I got a new one.

Re: General Stuff(tm)
Good luck with all the house clearance stuff, we managed to find a really good local company to do my parents house, and also a decent company to take my Dad's car, which to my surprise started and was driven onto the flatbed, despite an extended period sitting idle.stephen_usher wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 5:14 pm I'm back down at my Dad's house in Cornwall. It's a difficult process for sure, we're only just in the position of selling, and for a lot less than we wanted, but they hadn't done any maintenance in a very long time and it really affected the price.
Hope it all goes smoothly for you.
